yes lots of people have it and no, no barbs are needed. there are twoo aproaches to this. one of the inlet outlet thing is 5/8 od and the other is 3/4. if you have 1/2 id tubing you can soak the end of the tubing in boiling water for a few seconds and then try to strech it over. the other way requires the use of a saw. since the 3/4 is actually flared from a 5/8 od, you a saw or whatever you choose to saw off the tubing until it is about an inch or so away from the tank. you should now have two 5/8 od tubes coming from the heatercore. you can slip your 1/2 id tube right over it

I use the boiling water method myself. I also stick a closed set of pliers in the heated end of my 1/2ID Clearflex and then gently open the pliers by spreading the handles. This pre-stretches the tubing and makes it easier to get over the stock pipes on the Chevette HC. You may want to stick the pre-streched end back in the hot water prior to pushing it on. Not only does the hot water soften the tubing, it gives it a little lube as well.

Here is a pic to prove it works. ;)

Do they sell a shroud for that heater core? or you guys make your own shrouds? how many fans do this heater core fit?

I think the shroud for the JR-120 will work because from what I have heard they are basicly the same heatercores... but I never had any of them...

My advice would be to make your own and save yourself some money, unless you don't want that ghetto look.

cooling works makes shroud for the Chevette core.

or you can buy some tupperware and use that as a cooling shroud.

Do not use the one for the JR-120. This JR-120 radiator is smaller that the Chevette heater core.

Heatercoes fin area 6 1/8 x 6 1/8
120 shroud 5.5 x 5

If you do buy from D-tek pruchase the Regular Pro Heater Core shroud.

I personaly would either make my own or do the tupperware shroud.

cooling works makes one that works with most of the 6 x 6 cores including the chevette (as stated above).

cooltechnica should have it...

but you can make your own out of plexi or metal:

that is a 86 chevette core I did eons ago with fitting mods and a shroud made from plexi. it has been moved thru a few cases so it is looking a little rough. it also has flat side panels and brazed on mounting brackets. :)

the caprice cores? how much of a pain in the arse they are depends on your luck - most of them have oval fitting punch outs in the tanks - PITA factor is fairly high to fix those. side note on caprice cores - you can get 2 of them with the same model number and the fittings will be totally different.

modded '71 caprice core with metal shroud - fittings were removed and brass 1/2" barbs were added in place of the originals.

a better and easier dual 120 mm core to mod:
