Ok I have tried to be extremely careful with my settings here as I went up in speed. Athlon 1333 @ 1508
12.5 x 116 , CPU @ 1.87v everything was fine unreal tourney for hours no problem.
then I tried to see if I could get the same speed with a lower multiplier and a higher FSB setting, I always wear a wrist strap and always touch the PS first with the power cord unplugged.
now I get no beep at all when I hit the power switch and no boot up, I returned the settings all to factory (no oc) took the battery out and reset the cmos jumper and left it overnight, tried to boot this morning and no go? what should I do?
P.S. the mobo (Epox 8K7a+) shows an "FF" on the LCD readout which means it is functioning fine...could it be fried memory?
PLEASE HELP ASAP...I am freaking here,
Hmm sounds like you've got it clocked up too high and the machine need a bios reset.
I know on my machine if you don't unplug the power supply from the wall the bios doesn't seem to reset.
Try that.

What a joke! I took the 1.4 AYHJA out of my babe's computer and put it in and the thing fired right up! so that means I fried the processor? how the hell could it fry that easy with the temp never going above 43c ? I have the best cooler money can buy (air cooler that is) and all the good stuff....is it really this easy to smoke a processor? if so I cant afford to stay in this game too long.....tell me this was a fluke!
Did you try the cpu in the other pc to verify its bad?
I really don't think you could fry the processor by changing the fsb bus. Unless your heatsink wasn't on correctly... which is hard to believe because the swiftech is really easy to install.
Test out the chip on your gfs machine like wolf says.
maybe you got a bum core.
Rma it.

Ok chalk it up to way ignorance or whatever but I just placed the chip in her machine and it booted up perfectly? WTF is that all about? I went out of my mind here this morning trying to figure out what I could have done wrong...can someone explain this? this makes no sense at all.....
Well thats going to be hard to do without being present when you were doing things.
Just be glad your cpu is ok :)
Also if your bios is the 3/10/2001 version update it.
That bios is known to cause some odd problems.
Maybe the cpu wasn't 100% in the socket.
grin. Either way, smile and be happy that your tbird is ready to fly.

Well lets look at this for a minute.....could it be that the CPU is sub par and not long for overclocking? in which case I send it back within the 30 days I have to do so? or is there some glitch that I came across that wont let CMOS clear? or is there another way to clear the BIOS that I am unaware of? keep in mind here that I am REALY REALY new to the whole PC world let alone overclocking....I have been a Macintosh user for 15 years and very technically inclined, building video edit suites for some of the biggest companies in America, all Mac based, but this is sooo much fun and the results are great when I get them....I am just a little scared now by this whole deal.....at $135.00 or so a shot (current NewEgg price for OEM 1333 AYHJA) its not like I can afford to make "coasters out of these things.....
By the way.....THANK all of you for the interaction here....this place rocks HARD because people like you are here! I am greatful!
Actually, people use messed up CD's as coasters. Keychains are the common item made out of T-birds who have lost their wings. :D

Ok my next question would be do I have to connect the bridges on this processor to OC it correctly? I have not touched those at all and have read many a post about guys using #2 pencils etc......all I have done here is set the multiplier switches and adjusted the FSB settings in BIOS to get the OC that I had. now I am trying to OC my girls processor ;-) heheheh
if the 1333 is a better processor for this I will keep it but I have a choice between a 1.4Ghz AYHJA or a 1.33Ghz AYHJA both are rev.C processors. which is better in your opinion?...the 1.33 seemed to give me fits at anything over 1508Mhz (12.5 x 116) which really isnt taking advantage of Memory or CPU specs from what I understand since I was running it below the 266FSB spec? whats your opinion?
Most 1.4 cpus come unlocked.
If you were able to raise or lower the cpu frequency using the dip switches then its unlocked.
If it were locked it would stay at the same setting no matter what you set the switches to.

Cool thanks for that! how about the other stuff tho...do you have any experience with the 1333 vs. the 1400 ?I am running tests on the 1.4Ghz right now and i cannot even get Unreal Tourney to play with the thing set as low as 1269 (9.5 x 133) I am right now going to test it again after raising the Vcore to 1.87v, why is this happening? it wont run any 3D games at the 1400 Mhz setup (10.5 x 133) are these 1.4 units any good?
Yes I am running my 1.4 @ 1550 now 10X155.
If your cpu wont run at 1.4 or 10.5x133
Then there is something worng.
Drivers, power supply, memory voltage.
Check all your voltages from windows.
If you dont know how use mb probe its the easiest to use.
You gan get it here.

ok heres where I am at now, I just raised the Core to 1.87v and that made it stable (able to play UT) at 10.0 x 133 I am now going up to 11.0 x 133 and going to try that, it seems as if it needed a little more Core voltage to make it work, ill let you know here in about 10 minutes....thanks for hanging in there with me!

Ok here is the update.
I am currently running the 1.4Ghz CPU and getting a good 1608 from it as we speak using 12x134 and a Core voltage stting of 1.87v, the 5v reading has an average of 4.88v and a low of 4.78 (SCARY?)
The settings I am at right now seem way better than I was able to get from the 1.33Ghz unit since I am actually at (and above) the 266Mhz FSB the chip is rated at, so this is good, the total package is running exceptionally cool 39c@Idle and 43c loaded (over an hour playing UT online). Any attempts to go higher by raising the multiplier another step resulted in a no boot situation, increasing the FSB another step results in UT not playing or giving me an error message shortly after launch.
I am just a bit afraid to increase the Core voltage again since that is what triggered the catastrophe the started this thread, does anyone know if I should increase the DDR voltage? or increase the Core voltage in an attempt to go higher or should I be happy and let it run for a few days at this setting?
It should be noted that I carefully and methodicaly increased the multiplier settings 1 step at a time to acheive the current result running (or attempting to run) Unreal Tournament for at least 5-10 minutes and then backing out to check the temps and voltages, it was not however necessary to clear the CMOS after each increase or adjustment.
This is progress and I am pleased so far with the outcome should this be stable and usable, but like everyone else I would like more.....is this what crack addicts go through.....hmmmm?
Thats a nice overclock and I wouldnt push it anymore cpu wise.
I wouldnt worry about the +5v reading since you are stable.
