View Full Version : trying to boot from cd....

ok heres the whole story..... i have windows xp pro. and i copied the disc to my HD so when i wanted to install optional thingys i didnt have to go find the disc..... yesterday i felt like reformating so i poped in the disc and i heard a loud noise and somehow it got all scratched in the disc drive(maybe it wasnt all the way in? who knows)....so my pro disc is shot..but i fiqured no biggy i got it backed up so i burned it and tried to boot from it, nothin.......what do i have to do to get it to work???????

unzip this file and read the readme it allows you to create a bootable cd from the files on your hdd

Call microsoft and get them to send you a new disk:D

also i have one more question. is there a way to backup the OS after its activated to a CD so i dont have to keep calling microsoft to get my windows activated?

np glad I could help :) and in answer to your next question yes

If you ever need to reinstall Windows XP you will need to also perform reactivation through Microsoft. However, there is a way to avoid this. Windows XP stores it's activation information in a file named "wpa.dbl" which is stored in the \Windows\System32 subdirectory. Copy this small file to an external diskette and store in a safe location. At any point that new hardware may be installed to the system, be certain to recopy the wpa.dbl file to the diskette. Should Windows XP ever need to be reinstalled, upon completion of the installation process copy the backup wpa.dbl file from the diskette to the \windows\system32 subdirectory and reboot the system. Your reinstalled Windows XP operating system is now registered.

just outta curiosity....with that image making program work with windows xp home also or is there a different version of that software that is for home?????

Its a diffrent version for home, which ive attached just incase any one wants it
