has any one tried to use trasformer oil in there cooling systems either in water blocks or submergeing the motherboard and video cards in the oil
Someone did it a few years ago, I distinctly remember the article - but for the life of me I cannot find the reference for it. If I recall correctly, he had some success but it was quite a mess. he used a light grade mineral oil and did not use a pump at all - completely static cooling. The bad new is that mineral oils have rather low heat capacities, much less than water but slightly higher than air. With new CPU's pumping out 40-50 watts of heat in standard trim, it might not be worth the touble. Plus, pumps used to move a viscous fluid are quite expensive.... It was definately an interesting read though - I will have a second look to see if I can find it.
