http://www.thermaltake.com/v6.htm

It seems good enough for my AMD 1.4Ghz and it's AMD recommended for my cpu. Also is 31dba really loud? I don't have much exp. with fans.

if you're not gonna overclock your 1.4 it will be ok. but the volcano 6cu isn't the best for overclocking.

Why does AMD recommend the Volcano 6cu and not the 6cu+ ??

I could get the non recommended 6cu+ but it's louder! 39dba!
But it's got a 7000 RPM fan and pumps out 38cfm of air!!!

If you are looking for a HSF for an AMD chip, go with the ThermalRight SK-6. It is all copper - a few bucks more than the Volcano - but well worth the additional money. ThermalTake HSF are O.K. for low end Intel CPU's but will not cool your AMD 1.4 adequately.

but isn't the sk6 just a heatsink?

i went to the website and the fan on it sucks.

Also isn't copper base and aluminum better than all copper?

The fan that came with mine was a Delta 38cfm. The best HSF combo that I have is the Swiftech MC462A, but it costs 75.00. I have Alpha PAL 6035, Kaine Hedgehog 428, Vantec (Piece of crap), Silver Mountain, Globalwin CAK, ThermalRight SK-6, and several ThermalTakes on the Intel machines. For Intel, like I said, the ThermalTakes are adequate, but they are not up to the challenge on High end Tbirds. On my 1.4 I use the Swiftech. But for the money - especially if you ever want to overclock - the ThermalRight is your best bet. You just have to be careful when it is mounted. Warning on mounting is in another thread.
