I just got my DD Maze4 Chipset Block today. Everything looks fine, except my mounting hooks keep flying off. I wrote the following e-mail to Danger Den Danny explaning the problem. The e-mail pretty much speaks for itself, please be careful when mounting with those hooks.

E-mail to Danger Den Danny

Dear Dan Stephens,

I just received my Maze4 Chipset Block, and it's looking ggreat! I have installed it , but I have not run it in a system yet. I'm sure it'll work fine though and I'm looking forward to getting some great temps! I do have some feedback regarding the mounting hooks though.
I'm not sure how the hooks have worked for you guys in the past, but the ones I got do not seem to stay attached to the loops very well. With a little dexterity and patience, getting the hooks on isn't a problem. However, after a minute or two, one will inevitably slip off the loop and fly off. The vibration from this will cause one of the other hooks to slip off its loop, and eventually all the hooks fly off. This is a potentially dangerous situation, and I just wanted to write an e-mail in order to bring it to your attention and offer a suggestion of my own.
From what I've observed, the problem is that the notch in the mounting hooks isn't deep enough to keep the them from slipping off the loops. I've attached a drawing that shows what I'm talking about. I know it looks ridiculous, please don't laugh! I just threw it together to illustrate my point. The hook on the left is what mine look like. Whether that's what the hooks are supposed to look like, I don't know, but the hook on right right is what I think would work much better. I'm going to buy a file tomorrow and modify my hooks, but I just wanted to bring this problem to your attention before anything bad happens.
As I'm sure you know, hooks that fly off can seriously damage the inner workings of a computer. I think it would be in the best interest of Danger Den and its customers to make sure that the hooks maintain a secure hold of the loops. I hope this e-mail was helpful, please let me know if you have any more questions! Thank you!

Huh, from your drawing, that's kindof a silly way to make the pins...I'd just try slotting down in that groove with a small hacksaw blade myself, anything's got to be an improvement on that design.

Yeah, I know. I plan on modding them with a saw or a file. I know I have one or the other lying around in my tool box.

I just wanted to let DD know before they start getting complaints. Maybe the hooks are supposed to be better than the ones I got, but regradless, if they're sending out the sucky ones thinking that they'll work just as well, then I wanted to tell DD that they won't.

I also wanted to warn any of you if you have a DD block with hooks. I didn't know they were going to fly off and one nearly hit me in the eye.

I don't know how much material you are planning to remove from the groove (ha, it rhymes), but if you take too much off it might decrease the mounting pressure for the block. Just keep an eye out for that.

On another note, I think D-Den should have waited a little longer so they could have worked out little problems like that. Tiny improvements can make huge differences on the overall quality of a product.

I'm only going to take a millimeter off, so I don't think it'll affect the mounting pressure that much. The hooks provide a lot of pressure ~20lbs, and I was nervous mounting the hooks. I was half expecting to hear a crack any second. But, the chipset was alright. At any rate, maybe filing down the hooks will release a pound or two of pressure, but I doubt that'll make much of a difference since those springs are so stiff to begin with.

I got a response from DD, I'll post it a little later. They're going to look into the problem and they're mailing me new hooks. These look like the same hooks that they've always been using for their past z-block chipset wb, so maybe nothing bad happened before. Regardless, I think the hooks should be improved. I'll let you guys know how the "new" hooks are.

Here's the e-mail I got back from Dan. I'll post again once I get my replacement hooks. I'll compare them to my modded hooks.

From Danger Den Danny

Hi Jason,

Thank you for the heads up, I have inform our staff to take a better look at these Hooks so they are not flat, we do not want any one getting hurt or parts broken or damaged. I have asked our shop to send you 4 new Hooks. Again thanks for your comments.

DD send me new hooks, but they're only marginally better. I'm still going to take a file and make sure they'll stay on securely.
