to water. Currently I'm running a Thermalright SLK-800A, with a Vantec Tornado 88. When it was cool out, I never hit anything close to 40 C, even when benchmarking. But I live in the South, and it is warm here now. I don't normally turn on the AC until the end of June. But now, even without benchmarking, my die temp hits close to 50 C and I'm getting random, or maybe not so random, reboots. It happens either in a game, or, since I had a new problem, I ran SiSoft Sandra, and found it reboots during the Multimedia CPU benchmark. It is not doing it right now, because this morning my die temp is only 36 C.

I'm not really beating on this thing, I've only got it running @ 220 X 11.5. But I am now getting flicker lines in the screen every once in a while. This is a real good Mobile 2500+ Barton, unlocked, I do not want to kill it with heat.

Am I on the right track here? Is heat causing my reboots?

What should I get for water cooling, I have a server case, but I'd rather run most of the system outside, for maximum cooling and minimum risk of leaks. I can fabricate just about anything, I am a welder and a machinist, so mounts and plumbing are not a big deal.

hey man i totally understand where you coming from. i have the exact same chip and at full load i get somewhere around 51-54. i don't like it either and i might watercool soon too. if you are looking for a good waterblock i suggest the new polarflo superfinish or the dangerden rbx or maze. of course dtek whitewater is good too. anything else you need?

Is that in game or Idle? Try folding or prime to stress the cpu then check temps.

I never hit anything close to 40

going from 40-50 from a change in room temp is pretty drastic, that would be like going from an ambient of 20c(68f) to 30c(90c) to cause that. Its probably something else also contributing to the rise. You need temps under full load for temps to mean anything.

I'm getting random, or maybe not so random, reboots.

How is your voltage?

But I am now getting flicker lines in the screen every once in a while.

That sounds like your video card, maybe that is OCed to far, maybe you should consider a gpu block as well. Not a bad reason to go WCing but it will add to the cost.

What should I get for water cooling.

Just start browsing, you will find what you need soon enough. ;)

good write up corvette. but savage, after you stress or break in your chip at those temps your cpu should be able to handle them. like my chip now has no problem around handling 54 full load but i am still worried that one day it will burn out. gl
