| Tbird 1000 AYHJAR (@-1.78) (From theoverclockerzstore)
| Crucial 256MB PC2100 DDR-SDRAM, 184-pin DIMM
| Thermalright SK6 /w Delta Fan (Combo)
| OCZ-Implosion FT-700 ( over 400 CFM )
| IBM 60GB EIDE ULTRA ATA-5 DESKSTAR 7200RPM 60GXP
1. What do you guys think of a combo such as this 1 for a brand new system? My main goal is to have a SAFELY o/cable machine, by that I mean that after I o/c it to at least 1.6 it will not suffer at all, be it stable as a rock. I was thinking of using the Tbird 1400 AYHJAR (o/c up to 1.6-1.8) instead of the 1000 only for the higher raw and assurance in that I have more of a chance of getting to around 1.7gHz than with the 1000 and also with less heat. Am I right?
2. The official specs for the Abit-KG7-RAID say it only supports up to 1.33gHz yet I read somewhere (can't remember where) that 1.4 works fine. Is this true? If so Question #1 was rhetorical... should have asked this 1 first.
3. Is that IBM HD good? ATA-5? isn't that a little low? Can someone tell me somthing I don't know? lol.
Any other suggestions you may find relevant to my new systems don’t hesitate, throw ‘em right at me, I’ve got a cup and I know how to use it. :D
Thanks for your help!

Well, seems really a good configuration :-)
about your Hd i think that should be good, coz ATA5, if I remember well, is an ATA100 like mine, an IBM 75GXP Series DTLA307030 30Gb 7200rpm.
For the compatibility list of Cpu's, that your Mobo supports, take a look on tha Abit website, but I suppose that it supports TB1.4Ghz

I really need an answer about the cpu because I want to start ordering soon, I want to know which chip to buy the 1.4 or 1.0, there is also a 1.33 on theoverclockerzstore I was thinking of getting but I dunno if it's better than any of those 2. Look at this page, tell me which would most likely succeed; money is not an issue because they are pretty close in price.
Here is the link (http://www.theoverclockerzstore.com/OCZstore.cgi?user_action=list&category=Overclocked%20CPU's)

All sounds good - though you might want to consider the SK6 with the normal fan, not the delta. I've never used the delta myself but everyone complains about the noise, and judging by reviews of the SK6 it performs great with a slower fan like a 27cfm as well. I know these high-speed tbirds are putting out a lot of wattage now, but with good case cooling an SK6 with a slower (and quieter) fan than the delta should still do you fine. Just something to consider.
Only other point to make is about the KG7 and memory - do you know about having to use registered DDR SDRAM if you want to use more than 2 DIMMs? And that means all sticks, not a mix of registered and unregistered, so if you ever plan to use more than two DIMMs it would be wise to get registered RAM from the start. I think I heard someone in a review say that they used more than two unregistered sticks with no problems, but Abit don't gaurantee it so I wouldn't be too sure it's ok till we hear from more people.

This is what I found about your Mobo on the Abit's website: Support AMD Athlon/Duron 700MHz ~ 1.33GHz or future Socket A Processors based on 200/266 MHz(100MHz/133MHz Double Data Rate), and it seems to support TB1.4Ghz coz 'future Processor based on 200/266Mhz Fsb' :-)

Ugghh yes... OK so now i know I can use the 1.4 but no1 told me if it worth it yet, at least for the heat? Is it worth it for the heat? or even the 1.33?
Thank you guys for your great help so far...

Wait, you're really faster like a train ;-)
it seems to be supported but, wait untill you got other Yes, Yes, Yes, and after made your order, it's better to be sure!

You will probably have even more heat coming off of that 1 ghz T-bird oc'd to 1.4 then the 1.4 itself. Plus, you may not even get the 1ghz up to the point they say. I recommend going the 1.4 waty. You may even have to do a voltage modification to the motherboard (should be the same as the KT7 series of motherboards) to get that chip that high. I have tried the SK6 heatsink without much luck. It has problems seating correctly, and my Alpha 6035 outperforms that heatsink by about 5C. Not to say it is bad, though. It is probably human error -- not setting correctly.

If you're just using the onboard temp probe to get those readings it might just be plain wrong. I remember hearing where some guy (possibly Joe here at oc.com) managed to 'lower' his mbm temp readings by about 5C by cooling the back of the mobo, behind the cpu - and therefore cooling the thermistor mounted in the soeckt. The actuall cpu temp didn't change at all - just goes to show how easily fooled mobo probes can be by different patterns of airflow around the socket. My watercooling keeps my duron at 2.3V at about 51C max according to Asus Probe, whereas it tells me my cheapo Taisol cooler (one of their OEM-type coolers nonetheless) keeps it at 48C. No way do I believe that. I'm sure it's because the Taisol, being a hsf, creates more airflow around the socket, cooling the probe more. I'm sure the cpu will be cooler with watercooling.
Oops, that was a bit of a rant. Sorry, just my 2 cents :)

Hi supraway,
your temp @full load seems to be a little higher if compared to mine coz you are running your chip at rated speed, and I use my TB1200 OCed@1400 1.775v with a cheaper Fop32 and I got @full load, with Folding@home that works 24/7, 55-57 degree C.
I think that the Thermalright Sk6 works really cool then the our cooler coz made of copper, even if more attenction is needed during the installation.

Thanx guys, got 1 more for ya, it's about my case:
I don't really know which case to get for a Tbird 1.4. What will I need for it after I O/C it to lets say a max of 1.8 but I want to have extra SPU just incase I need it in the future. And what is the recommended CFM? 400? Anything else my case should need?
Thanx, this forum is really #1!

also... if we are already on the subject of cooling, after answering that question, which would you suggest getting the Thermalright SK6 or the Swiftech MC462-A for my 1.4 Tbird?
I've seen the SK6 win on the [H] review but a lot of people are going with the MC462-A.

anyone? My thread gets stacked down in the archives so fast I can't find it so I don't know if anyone would go down there and read it.

Hi train22,
The SK6 & MC462-A seems to be really the best air-coolers possible, but more depends by your budget ;-)
My personal choice is on Swiftech, but you must check if there's enough room around the socket to fit.
I hope it helps you :-)
