I decided to give my brother my res, but the one I want is basically the same, so the hole will work for it. I should have the rest of what I need (res and CPU block) Wednesday, and should be finished by Friday.
Parts are:
Innovatek dual fan radiator
Swiftech MCP600
Aqua-Computer Cuplex Evo Revision 1.1
Aqua-Computer AquaTube Revision 1.1
Tygon 3/8" ID hose.

Thanks for the kind words. :) I do have all my PC parts, other than the video card. I just shipped out my 9800XT last Friday. Waiting to buy a X800 Pro online at a good price. I just havent put them in yet, I will probably tomorrow or the next day.
Here (http://home.comcast.net/~dfall/Comp/Watercooling/2.JPG) is a pic of my last watercooled system. I was pretty happy with it, but I wanted more. Got a Mach II... and now going back to water.
I plan to install a seperate look for my GPU and HD in a few more months. Same pump, and a single fan rad in front. Another Aquatube in front as well.

Where did you find that nice looking grill on top of the case covering the rad? Did that come with the radiator?
Looks Great.

No, it was extra. Got it at Highspeedpc.com for $25.
Very nice looking... Wish I had a workshop :)
nice work! i dont know how you people cut all the metal away and make it look so easy... how are temps with that radi-d?

I will be getting my res and CPU block in tomorrow, so I can finish then. I did some other little stuff that I can do while Im waiting. Did some wiring for my fans, and put in my Panaflo fans instead of the stock ones. I just had three though, needed four. Ill have to order another.

My two rear 80mm's, under my PSU. It looks like its laying on top of them, but its not. There is a tiny drop off, just enough for my wires to lay in there.

Covering up my drive. I had painted it black for my last black Lian Li, and had planned on doing so with this one. But they sent me two ROM covers, and a floppy cover installed with the case. Pretty good deal, as thats about $28 extra...
I will get my CPU block, and Res tomorrow, and I should be able to finish it up. All I will need is a video card. I shipped out my 9800XT last Friday... and waiting on a X800 :(

Fallguy, what is the tool called that you used to cut the hole for the radiator? I am tempted to use a nibler (sp?) instead of my dremmel to cut the hole for my dual rad. I've never used a nibler before and want to cut a clean hole. The cleaner the hole the less clean up work I will have to do with the dremmel.
The job looks very clean!

The tool he used to cut the radiator "hole" is called a jigsaw. They sure come in handy when cutting straight lines!
InvisGreenMan
05-12-04, 12:18 AM
I cut a 120mm round hole with my dremel and then split some gas line to edge it, but I think I want to expand it to let the fan breathe more freely. I was looking at this (http://snt-systems.com/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=21_30&products_id=46) do you think it would make more wooshing noise than my round 120mm with a wire grill?
Fallguys rad just looks to sexy! I want mine to look like that!

Hell ya that's fusken cool stuff can't wait till its done.
LMK when you find a x800xt I'm dying for it.
fallguy
05-12-04, 01:19 AM
Yeah, its a PC-70, no window. Used a jigsaw on the rad hole, with a very fine tooth blade.
I got the res and cpu block from snt, they have really great service. I plan to order a NB block from them very soon, just had to save money for my new video card.
My rad is from highspeedpc.com, its the dual Innovatek one, same for the fan guard. I was going to order one from snt, but they were out. I got impatient, and got one from highspeedpc. snt had some on the way, if only I had asked. :(
As I said, I should get my res and cpu block tomorrow from snt. And my fittings I need from frozencpu as well. I *should* be able to get it done, except for the video card tomorrow. It all depends on how much my 3 month old sleeps.. he comes first. :)

I'm also hoping to get my stuff from snt tomorrow. Even though I probably wont get the time to install it until this weekend.

How Ive got it setup. Anyone see any problems? I had to use so much hose because the pump is supposed to suffer an instant death if it doesnt have water at all times. I didnt want to back track so much, but it should push the water fine.
Just got to put in my PSU, and tidy up the wires. Ill take a better shot of the mobo wires I was trying to hide with that hole in the back of the mobo tray.

I tried to hide the wires, I think I did a pretty good job. The last pic is my mobo and USB wires. Instead of having them come across the bottom of the case, they just come from behind it. Making it much more wireless. :)
As I said, all I need is the video card, and to test for leaks. I dont actually have any distilled water, so Im going to have to wait till tomorrow. Then Ill test it, and it will be a paper weight till I get a video card.
If anyone has any recomendations on how I can place the wires, or tubing, let me know. Always open to sugestions. I was thinking of zipping some of them together. I still need my SATA cable for my HD, and IDE for my ROMs. Both are black, and should be a problem. Just havent put them on yet. And I need some extensions, and splitter for my two back 80mm's. I will have to make a run to CompUSA for those. They shouldnt be a problem either, just run them along the same paths I already have.

I just wanted to know if that setup, which I believe is 3/8 tubing, is just as good as a system with 1/2ID tubing. I'm debating whether or not to go1/2 inch or 3/8 inch, I prefer the 3/8 inch because it looks a lot cleanerand less bulky.

maybe should of waited to put the Rad on, its hard to get the bubbles out of the Rad without tilting it around. It can really effect cooling sometimes if theres enough air in it. Otherwise your case is looking awsome. Its a huge ass case too i love it.

Its basically a maze design. They have a new one out, that performs better, its a lot like the new Swiftech blocks. The water hits the middle of the block first, then goes out from the side.
So I fired it up a few mins ago, I guess Ill keep the pump. Its a little whiney, but its supposed to go away in about an hour.

You can see the "fountain" spout working, see the ripples? Its hard to capture in a still image, in motion its pretty neat.
I do have a small leak though. :( The LED is encased in plastic, and I overtightened it a tad, and the threads cracked. Ive got one on the way with the NB, snt came thru for me with great customer service. Ive got to drain it anyhow to put my NB block on, Ill swap out the plastic nut thingie then.
All in all, Im pretty happy. Just need a video card. :(
i wish i knew about this place before making my order. but i still happy with what i got. your setup is really nice! i like the resevoir. are those barb adapters causing any restriction in your loop? i know innovatek stuff uses 1/4id-3/8od?
fallguy
05-13-04, 05:02 PM
No the barbs are the same size as the res threads. They dont restrict the water flow at all, I dont think. By looking at them, it looks like the Innovatek fittings have a slightly larger opening. I got some of Innovateks 1/2" OD fittings, to use on my radiator. I was hoping they would fit in the Aqua stuff too, cause they are both metric, but they didnt. :(
InvisGreenMan
05-13-04, 06:23 PM
Fallguy, don't expect the little bit of noise to go away in an hour. It does get better however. Mine seems like it gets quieter all the time, but the biggest difference I noticed was after it ran a couple days in my leak test setup. Swiftech has a time for bearing wear in, but I don't remember it off hand.
Gotta love that PCP&C 510 Deluxe! I have one too and I will never use another brand of PSU ever again.
Edit: what are your temps? I am very curious because I may do a 3/8ID setup next time if it doesn't affect temps much...easier routing. thx
Edit2: Did you get the waterblock installed with the springs for equal pressure?
Just wondering how you have room to fit the rad. up top w/o it running into the psu in the back or the cd rom(s) in the front. Or do you have the roms mounted lower. I have been wanting to mount my rad like this for awhile but seem to have the problem of not having enough room in between the psu and cd rom(s).
fallguy
05-13-04, 06:35 PM
Invis, yeah the 510 is awesome. :) I dont know my temps yet, I dont have a video card for it, so I cant boot up. :( Waiting on a NB block from snt too, should get that next Thursday. I sold and shipped off my 9800XT last week. Waiting on a X800XT to come out.
I had the CPU block mounted wrong, I have since corrected it. sntmods posted a link on how to do it right.
creepy, yeah my roms are down low. Ive just got two, a Sony 8x DVD, and a 8x Sony DRU530a dual format DVD burner. Then the fan controller up top, that leaves the three middle empty. I could have easily used the 3 120mm fan rad, and still had room for the res up top.

I was wondering how the MCP600 would perform in a low flow system. It may be too powerful.

I am excited to see how your setup turns out! I think am going to build my next computer with the PC-75 too, but with TECs on the CPU and GPU and a much larger rad. I have all my WC junk jammed into my PC-65 now and it is cramped. I actually took the stuff out because I had a custom waterblock breakdown, and am trying to find a temporary replacement while I refine and mill my design.

Well... I guess Ill do another small update. Got my NB block in, and added it to the loop. Its leak testing now. I had a VERY hard time getting the Tygon to not kink from the CPU to the NB. I tried various lengths of hose, and different configurations.. finally got it, I think. Had to use the weight of the other hose, to hold it down, to keep from kinking.

Thanks for all the kind words guys, both business and personal.
I like how the setup is coming along [Fallguy], you'll be hearing from me later on tonight once I become available for chat. Remember to include some pictures for my customer's image gallery once you're done. :D

The foutain I think helps with filling the system. The res has three holes on the bottom, and two on the side you can use. I am using two bottom for in/out. One for the LED. With the fountian, I can fill the res and it doesnt go down the up, not that it would matter much. I do like the effect too. The LED is very bright, it shines to the ceiling.. and mine is 10 foot.
Dan is a great guy. Always very helpful, and polite. Even gave me another nut for my LED that I cracked for over tightening. I just wish I could leave some feedback on resellerratings.com For some reason it always asks me to login, after I already did and try to leave a msg. Even cleared my cookies and such. Going to try to reg with my wifes email and try again.. :sigh: So for you others, dont forget!! :)
Ill take some good pics when I get it all up and going for you to put in your gallery.
In a few months (6 or so prolly) I plan to add a second loop for my GPU and HD. I plan to get another res, the new ATi block from Aqua-Computer at snt (or maybe the RAM blocks and the GPU block), and their HD cooler. But thats down the road.. I just want a video card now. :(

Then ship that work of art my way. ;)
fallguy
05-20-04, 03:59 PM
Ship what your way... ? Im keeping it how it is, when I add a second loop. Im just going to put the res in the 3.5" bay, the single fan rad where to the 80mm's are, and the pump just beside the other one.
The last system I had, when I kept on adding blocks, my temps went up. I had a CPU, NB, GPU, and HD block all on the same loop. With a D-Tek Pro heatercore, and a Eheim 1048. I started out with just the CPU... then the GPU... then the HD... then the NB. I want to keep them seperate this time. :)
This is my last system which I just described.

I had a PC-6x as well. It was my first watercooled case... and it was pretty cramped. :)
I just wish I had waited and gotten the Aqua-Computer fan guard :/ If I put it on now, I would have to do a little more cutting. Something I really dont want to do at this time.

I am really trying to control myself from buying one of those aquacomputer gaurds for my single 120mm rad. It would look so nice on top of my case instead of a plain-jane 120mm grill. Plus there would be no need for the rubber molding around the hole. Argh, damn case moddding urges!
YES! more pics, i want to see more pics and some close ups of the fittings too.

I didnt have enough for the mobo and USB wires in front. And what I did have scrapes of is too small as seen in the last pic. I plan to get some more tomorrow, so you shouldnt be able to seem them very much.
I REALLY wish my pump was black.. Im -- close to selling it and getting the black one from cooltechnica, seen here. (http://www.cooltechnica.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Product_Code=AQX-50Z-DC12) Its the same, but black. They will even have 3/8" barbs to fit.. Ive thought about painting it, but dont want to void the warranty. I may try to use electrical tape.. but it might look tacky.
Comments? Looks better or worse? I am thinking about putting some on the right side of the mobo tray, where it is silver. I didnt have enough, and Ill have to get some more to do it. Dang PC-70 doors are so big :/

Hmmm, I actually dont remember. I know Ive never bought a SATA cable by itself. I must have gotten it with some hardware piece. I just checked my 3 IC7 MAX3 boxes, and all of them are just normal ones.
I know you can buy them at a 90 degree angle, but I dont remember doing so. So in short, Im not much help. :( It might have came with my Raptor, I dont know.

Well, got it up and running. I pulled a very old (10 years or so) PCI video card from a PC to test with. WinXP cant find drivers for it, and I have no idea what make/model it is. So it only does 4bit.. and 640x480. :(
My CPU temp is 41c idle, on a IC7 MAX3 and a 2.8E. Abit reads high.. but Im not sure how high. Im using AS5, and I havent tried to overclock yet. Ill try later on tonight.
Also got my brothers watercooled PC setup. His says 31c at idle, with a 2.4c. Will take some pics of his soon too.

What were your idle temps with the Swiftech setup? All things being equal, I would hope your new cpu block would best the Swiftech by at least 2-3c.
Has your pump quieted down yet? I would love to get another MCP600 however my experience with the first one makes me gun shy.

When I had that Swiftech setup, I had a P4C800 Deluxe, and a 3.0c. Now I have an IC7 MAX3 and a 2.8E, so I cant really compare.
The pump is pretty quiet to me now, I dont think I can hear it with the case side on.

Its a sound card, and Audigy Z2. Im not sure I under stand your question though. Those wires are the wires to my mobo, and USB. I ran them behind the mobo, and cut a hole for them. They pop out and I plugged them in. That way they dont come across the bottom of the case.

Ay Fallguy, was it difficult putting those 3/8 ID over the 1/2OD connections on the MCP600? Is i also hard to take it off also?
Raider84
05-25-04, 06:03 PM
i would suspect you would have to cut the tubing to take it off of the pump, but to but 3/8 tubing over a 1/2OD pump you just soak the tubing in very hot water and they become soft as hell. That's coming from my experience at least.
fallguy
05-25-04, 06:03 PM
Yes it was hard, but not too hard. I used a blow torch to heat it up. :) Just a little hard to try and find the "sweet" spot for it. Not too hot as to where it melts it, but not too cold to where doesnt help. Ive also done it with a lighter, and it works ok, just took a little more time.
I would really like the barbs that cooltechnica should have soon. When they release them, Ill pick them up.

Thanks, CAPiTA!
Well... I have no changed my mind (again) on what I want to do. I just sold my IC7 MAX3+2.8E today, and am ordering a NF2 250 mobo+3200+ A64. I cant seem to make up my mind. The board is black, so it will still match.. but the extra power connector to the mobo is in an aweful spot. Just above the AGP... going to get it there without a huge wire right down the middle of the mobo. :/
Also, I sent back the P4 CPU block mounting hardware, and the Intel NB block to snt today. They agreed to change them out for me free of charge, since they have a 30 day money back quarantee. Most places wont take back watercooling stuff, period. Another reason I am most happy with them. :)

What kind of nf3 250 board do you plan on getting? Check out the new MSI board that is supposed to be coming out (or is it already out?).

Chaintech has one for $77 at zipzoomfly. Its not the 250gb, but I dont need gigabyte lan, or the 7.1 audio. I already have a Audigy 2 ZS.
I have never used their mobos before, but Im going to give it a shot. It has AGP/PCI lock, thats the most important part. I REALLY wanted MSI's new board, but its not out yet. Few weeks so I hear.

Ay fallguy, I ordered the black pump from Cooltechnica, but I accidentally forgot to get it with the adjustable 1/2inch NPT threaded connections. You said that cooltechnica would sell parts for this interchangeability. Do you just place these adaptors over the straight connections of the pump? How did you find out they were selling these soon?
fallguy
05-26-04, 02:47 AM

No, my problem is I purchased the pumpwithout the threading. That is fallguys problem also as the MCP600 doesn't have any adaptors so you can just stick a 3/8 OD barb on it. I was wondering if Cooltechnica will ever sell adapters for the pumps with just straight connections. It looks like they just added the threading somehow, perhaps its just a piece of plastic with threading that they fit around the straight connections.

looks to me as if it's a different front with threaded fittings (lots of pumps have these - eg iwaki "t" pumps) - you could try emailing them to ask if they can supply you one i guess)
i don't think 3/8" OD fittings would be a good move - swiftech urge you not to use restrictive fittings with less than 3/8" ID on the inlet loop.
http://www.swiftnets.com/products/MCP600installationguide.pdf
fallguy
05-29-04, 02:59 AM
I find it kinda funny Swiftech doesnt want you to use "restricive fittings" when all of their other products are 3/8" ID. The pump is the only 1/2" ID thing they market.
Quicksilver, I had to use two of them. It was about 1&1/2 or 1&2/3 total used.

fallguy
05-29-04, 05:38 PM
I did get it up and going, but the factory BIOS reports temps off. It says 2c now  There is a beta bios I used, and it reported the temp at 30c, stock and idle. I tried to overclock, but I havent overclocked an AMD for some time now, other than my Biostart SFF. All I did to it was set the jumper to 166fsb for my 1800+, to get 1.9gig from it.
There are so many options that Im not used to, like HT. Default it 4x, but Ive read that you have to lower it to overclock high. Ive gotten it up to 235fsb for 2.6gig, up from 2.2gig. Thats with the stock multiplier of 11x. Again, the factory bios doesnt have a multiplier option, but the beta one does. You cant raise it, but you can lower it. There is also lots of memory options.. Im going to have to do some research before I can master this board.
Later tonight Ill try and get up some pics with it. I just stopped in from a "date" with my wife, her mom has our 5 year old, and mine has our 4 months old. Going to get them now. Rode my bike, had to come home to get the car. :) Im using a old crappy 9200SE PCI card till I get my X800. The mobo locks the AGP, but I havent seen a PCI lock. Maybe I missed it.. but it should be right next to the AGP frequency option. I dont know if thats hurting me, when I go any higher than 235fsb, I get a blue screen with an error with the ATi driver, and I have to reboot. So it seems like it is.
All in all, Im very pleased with this $77 NF3 250 board, easy to setup, and seems to have lots of options for overclocking. I wish it went higher than 1.7v for the CPU though, thats a little too low I think.
edit, here is a pic of 230fsb, was pressed for time and didnt get a 235pic.

Actualy I bet due to the design of the engine it probably won't start without some help, once it starts running it probably would be like 10 percent faster. The engine would start, but due to the higher hz would probably kick back continuously unless you manualy start it, I haven't tried it yet. I might soon who knows it might actualy work...

Has your pump quieted down yet? If so, how would you compare the noise to your 1048?
I just got my NexXxos HP Pro, GPX and Twinplex (NB block) set up and installed. The flow is less than my Swiftech gear. Temps are significantly better even with the restrictive flow. I just wonder how much my temps would improve with the pump from cooltechnica. I purchased the original MCP600 and it was outrageously loud; got damaged in transit back to Swiftech and I was out $80. So, this time I’m very cautious.

Just hoping the 1048 is enough, if not, I'll try the Innovatek version which has better head (at least I know its quieter than the MCP).

They have this style of pump, but one that has double the performance and is 12v. It is the 900 version and is supposedly dead quiet, more so than the 1048 and the cost is 93 dollars (cheaper than what they have for the 700. Another version to consider is the Innovatek 12vpump (its at highspeedpc) which has mor power than the 1048. The innovatek is only 10 dollars more than the

Ok. Let's say I have the exact same layout as you with an Nforce 3. My setup is pretty much standard with my routing going directly to the graphcis card from the CPU block. I bought the twinplex GPU block, but noticed that the barbs were so close together that the thick walled (1/8 inch, twice yours) is too thick to fit in between those barbs. My question is if I get tubing with smaller walls, will it easily kink from the CPu to the GPU? Have you had problems with kinking in your setup before?

It shouldnt kink up too much. Keep in mind, my Tygon kinked up some, and I had to work with it to make it not. Clearflex is pretty good stuff, its more rigid. My brother uses some he got from Home Depot, for like $2 for 10'. Its still 1/2" OD, and 3/8" ID. They have a lot of different sizes to work with down there.
What you could do, is use your tubing that you've got already, and then just use a smaller diameter hose from the CPU to GPU block. Then use the larger tubing again from there. Might not look so good though.
What motherboard are you using fallguy and does it have PCI/AGP lock?
Its a Chaintech VNF3-250. Yes it has a AGP/PCI lock, and is overall a very good board.

One of Auqa's probably. Their new one doesnt fit the X800's though. :( Its the one I really wanted. Alpha Cool is supposed to have a new one that cools the ram+GPU at once I think though. Its going to be months down the road when I do it, hopefully Aqua has one out by then.
Ill probably update this with some more pics tomorro, plan to finish it off.

what are you talking about? The 9000 series have the same mounting holes as the new x800s. I know because I have a Sapphire X800pro (with XT 16pipe mod). I have the twinplex block and its SO beautiful. But I agree, the alpa cool looks like it will cool much better. I just got the Twinles because I wanted something less restrictive.

The memory is in a different spot, so Im told.
I just got my X800 Pro in, but I dont really remember if its different than my 9800XT.
This is what I wanted; http://snt-systems.com/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=21_24&products_id=85
You cant tell from that pic, but it cools the memory too. Dan from snt said he tried it on a X800 Pro, and the memory didnt match up to the block where the ram was.
btw, I was thinking of trying that mod.. is it reversable if it doesnt work? All you do is just dab some conductive paint, right? Then if it does work, and you want to to be permanent you put some fingernail gloss to hold it?
quicksilverXP
06-12-04, 06:38 PM
that is correct, but you must make sure your serial number is GAXXXXX.1 or something like that and that its not a Built By Ati card. I've had both a Visiontek and an ATI X800 Proand both did not mod. The Sapphire ones seem to have the best success rate, and you don't even need to scrape anything in between those two points I just scraped the top points til they were shiny and use a conductive pen to join them together. If it doesn't work, nothin gwill happen to your card, you will just have a mark thats all. Perhaps some acetone will get it off, I don't recall how to take off conductive pen liquid.
Also, that waterblock will not work indeed. The ram placements are totally different than the 9800s. Just get these ramsinks http://www.frozencpu.com/cgi-bin/frozencpu/ram-19.html I've only heard good things about them, and after playing with my X800s, those chips can get really hot(if overclocked).

I didnt know you had to scrape anything off. The how-to-do-it url I saw showed the close up pic of the bridges, then the paint on them connecting them. If you've got another link to show me that would be great. Or perhaps you can pm me with some detailed instuctions and some pics if you have them. :) Ill look at my core tonight to see if its a .1 or not. I have a BB ATi board.
I couldnt find any Paxmat at CompUSA, and I know they have carried some before. So I cant finish it how I wanted. I did get some black paint, and plan to paint the pump though.

fallguy
06-13-04, 05:51 PM
Well, my rad has compression fittings, and my pump has clamps. The barbs from Aqua-Computer fit VERY snug with my Tygon. When I tried to take off the hose from a barb it literally took me about 1 min of constant tugging. One of of them I couldnt get it off, and had to cut the hose to get it off, and split the rest left on the barbs. It was then that I decided I wouldnt need any.
quicksilverXP
06-13-04, 06:47 PM
Yes, I second that. I bought the Nexxos pro and the Twinplex and it is a major pain getting the Tygon tubing off of the barbs.

Hey Fallguy. I really like your setup and have decided to go with Aqua Computer from SNT Mods. I have started my own thread HERE (http://www.ocforums.com/showthread.php?p=2859718#post2859718).
I wanted to ask you another question though. How do you like your PCP&C 510 deluxe? That's the power supply of choice right now but I've heard that it isn't very quiet, actually quite loud. Any insight on this?
fallguy
06-19-04, 11:48 AM
Oops, sorry quicksilver, must have missed your reply.
I like the chipset block, but I never ran it without it, so I cant say if it helped my overclocking. I read that the NF3-250's ran very hot though, so I got one just in case.
Blue, my 510 is very quiet, in this case. In my PC-6070B is wasnt so quiet. EVERY time I started up a game, it would go into turbo mode, and be pretty loud. Then go back to normal mode about 1 min after I quit the game. It would also kick into high gear just randomly while surfing the web, but not really too often. I only had 3 case fans though, and my case temp was a lot higher than it is now. I had a Mach II at the time, and no top blow hole.
I am assuming the PSU is getting more air because the two 120's draw it towards the PSU, where as in my old case, it didnt get any. It has never kicked into high gear though like it did in my old case contantly.
I have also since gotten my Paxmate, but havent taken a pic yet. The silver from the mobo tray is covered up now. I am also probably going to order a part for my GPU loop next week. Im going with a Aquatube, Aqua-Computer GPU block, MCP600 pump painted black, and still undecided on the rad. Id like to have a Aqua one, but those chrome 120's would be hard to screw on to it. Finding screws for it might be a pain.

I see tiny tiny air bubbles in your tubing...the kind that don't go anywhere...I have these also, I am running mine right now, for awhile to make sure it's working good until I boot it up. Are these bubbles common? do they affect performance?
fallguy
06-19-04, 08:22 PM
I didnt have any before I added Innovatek's fluid. They are so small, I doubt they effect performance at all. I like theirs though, because its clear. I didnt want any color to my water.
Now, if you have large bubbles.. that would be different.

Well.. another small update. I got a Dtek 120 Jr in today, with shroud, and one more Evercool 120mm aluminum fan. Its going to take a few months to get the rest of the parts, but I am going to go ahead and install this, so when the time comes I can just add the other stuff.
http://home.comcast.net/~kellyfall/Aqua/145.JPG
I had the original Pro heatercore, and this is a lot smaller, but they say it cools 98% as good.
My plan is to get another Swiftech MCP600 and paint it black, get another Aquatube, GPU block, and eventually the Aqua HD block, from snt. I may have to wait on the HD block, and add it to the loop down the road when I get more money.
One small annoyance with the 120 Jr and shroud, is that the supplied screws do not reach far enough. The only way they would fit, is without the shroud, even then the head wouldnt fit thru the screw hole on the fan. I would have really liked for them to include a bigger screw to make it easier on people with different configurations. Luckily I do have a Home Depot about 5 miles from me though, so no biggie.
http://home.comcast.net/~kellyfall/Aqua/146.JPG
If anyone wants to give me their opinion on how I should mount it, Im all ears. I havent looked at it inside the case yet, but pondering on putting the fan in front with shroud, blowing thru, or fan in the back with shroud, sucking thru it. I know I will have to mod the 2x80mm hole up front, thats not a problem. I did do a little measuring, and the existing holes will be a little bit wider than what I need, by about 1/2"-3/4" on each side. Ill try to figure out some way to cover that up.
Oh, and I bought a new motherboard.. the MSI K8N Neo, it will be here tomorrow. So I plan to take out this mobo (its in the FS forums) put in the heatercore, then put in the new mobo. Probably do that on Saturday. I might give an updated pic sometime on the weekend. I hate to bump this old thread.. but its a work in progress!!! :)

Yeah, its just Akasa Paxmat. I like the black look, and it is supposed to help with the noise. I did take out the filter, it was rubbing on the fan, but it probably wasnt cutting down on the air flow too much. I was thinking of turning the thing around, and have the fan on the inside pulling it thru. I still might, Ive got a few more months to get it how I want it, just basically testing it now.

Maybe considering putting the fan with an air hole on the right hand side of the panel (motherboard side) - between where the mobo and front panel are if it would fit there - and possibly another fan on the side of the removable panel?
if that makes sense.... could look nice and gets some good air flow going across the block.

hey fallguy,
how are you getting the air bubbles out of your rad? It's on top just like the reservoir. Are you running the system with the case tilted and all?
fallguy
06-30-04, 02:59 AM
Yeah, I tilted it when running it to get all the air out.
I still have a little bit of bubbles.. when I had my res filled to the top, and no Innovatek protectant I didnt. But when I put that in and left my res half empty, I got a little. If I fill it to the top, I dont, but then I dont have the little fountain effect either.
Giblet Plus!
06-30-04, 11:37 AM
The reservoir with the fountain effect looks cool, but I would imagine it adds a similar amount of resistance to your system as an extra waterblock. A proper reservoir would connect straight to the inlet of the pump with as large of diameter of tubing as possible.

The Eheim 1048 I have now is incredibly silent. I can't understand how people who say they've gone from a 1048 to an MCP600 do not notice the difference is sound, or that the sound is negligible. I now can understand why people would opt for watercooling a PSU as that is the loudest thing in my comp right now.

First off, the only pump I'll ever use is the MCP600 because mine works great for me. Mine is as silent as a cat walking through the ally at night, you only know its there if you happen to look at it.
Second, fallguy your system is great. I started modding a Lian-Li PC-7323 before I started following this tread but you've given me some ideas. My system will have a Black Ice Extreme II dual 120mm rad up top like yours. I'll have separate rediator for the NB and GPU. I'll either use my current Swiftech 80mm rads or a Black Ice Extreme for them.
I'm planning on having everything in the same loop. However I'm wondering if I'll need a second pump with all that restriction and the amount of hose I'll have to use due to the size of the case. It will have no reservoir because I'm sold on Swiftech's fill and bleed system.

No I got 2 of them to be sure. Guys here assured me it was silent and they was'nt. Almost is'nt silent. Yes it was 10x quiter than the laing but it had some impellor noise from about 6" away which I had to fix with impellor mod which stops slack. Then sitting on anything the vibration caused the case to resonate which is why I had to hang it from rubber to elminate. I'm pretty sensitive to noises though. If I can hear it at all, at 3am in my room, from 3ft away, it's no good. That's way I went though about $300 in fans and $300 in PSU's until nothing but mods would work.
Anyway heres a link to mod if you all want silent:

It isnt set exactly right, it bend just outside the 80mm fan hole. Im going to take the tape off, and clean up the extra sealant after it cures, should look better. Also going to seal up the two little holes, like where the fan wires are.
Good idea or bad? I havent modded the case yet, so its not too late to ditch the idea. Im worried about the back fan not getting enough air, so I thought about putting a divider to seperate the air flow, thoughts on that? I was also not going to put any back fans, just let the 120mm's suck the air in, yay or nay?
In basically looking for input here, it takes about 12 hours to cure, so I dont be doing anything else till it does. I was thinking about just butting it up to the edge of the case, or putting another "wall" of plexi and cutting to 80mm holes, then screwing it to the case. Which sounds better?
If anyone has any ideas I havent thought of, feel free to tell me. Always willing to learn. :)
edit, forgot to mention I will be cutting out the two guards, for more direct air flow. Also trying to think of someway to screen it off, and possibly put a filter on it. Ive got the stock one I took off the front, its just a hair too wide though.

Good Idea, pulling the air from outside should give ya better temps. The more air you can give the shroud from outside the better, if you have 2x120s pushing the air through the core then you should have at least 2x120s pushing the air into the shroud from the outside.
You can try mounting 2x80 at high revs, but db becomes an issue. You may need to make another piece with accomendates 2x120 to connect to the shroud.
You may need to deflect the exaust from your PSU down so it doesn't take in the hot air.
Something like my drawing maybe :/
Sounds like a good idea to me. I am surpised that you cut/used sealant. If looks are your thing, then use heat gun and table end to bend it. If you went with the divider idea, how would you do so? Horizontally?

My case isnt big enough for two 120's back there :/ One would fit, but would be very close, and would look odd since it wouldnt cover the two 80mm holes.
Yeah I was going to put a divider horizontally. I was also thinking of using some very thin metal, like for siding.

Ok... so I got a shroud on the front fan, and my 2nd pump painted and installed.

Now its pressed against the front of the case, with a pretty tight air seal. Put some neoprene on the outside to help seal it. It actually fits the holes about perfectly, just above the holes on top, and just under the holes on the bottom.
I still havent filled in the gap around the fan, just lazy I guess. Ill try to find something and do that soon.

My second pump. About the only think I dont like about where I have them, or the pump themselves, is that the butts are totally flat. Which is a huge air block.. not sure what to do about it. I dont need a lot of air flow, because when Im done with it, the CPU, NB, GPU+ram, and HD will all be watercooled. But I would like to have a little air flow.. especially up around the heatsinks by the CPU.
Any thoughts about how to get it around the pumps? Ive thought about trying to make some kind of V on the back end of the pumps, but not sure how to do it. Also dont want to make it look retarded...
So now I just need, the res, GPU and HD block. Slowly but surely. :)

Lookin good fallguy! Could you set them more towards the back of the case & turn them 180°? I like the way you have them now, but i also see how much air they could block.
As for the gaps around the fans, A couple pieces of sheetmetal & rivits, could take care of that. Keep up the great work!

I'm sure you mean water cooled. That shroud mod looks great. To solve your air flow problems you could mod a smaller fan to the top portion of the rad to pull a little more air through into the system or put a fan on the side panal if there is not one there already.

Oops, yeah, ment watercooled.
I really dont want to add another fan. As it is now, I just have 6. 1 PSU, 3 120's, and two rear 80's. A GPU fan too, but that wont be there when Im done. About 2/3's of the air goes over the pumps, maybe its not that big of a deal.

Are those fan's pushing air up through the rad? If so, switch it, its MUCH better to suck than to push (and in that case, leave the cool looking duct because the warm air will filter out of the case, unless you want the airflow inside). But SUCK SUCK SUCK!!!
You get no backpressure, you suck nice air in from your room.... much better :)

I cant really change it though, without taking it all apart. I would have to drill the rivets out, and reverse them. Then re-rivet it back together. Too much trouble :(
