OK, I just added another stick of memory into my computer. The specs are in my sig. I had 2x256 hyper x sticks, and I added another xms pc3200 stick of 512mb. Now, the only thing I get is loud beeps when I start up....what is that all about?!?!!?!

are you sure you made sure the memory is seated correctly?
Make sure the CAS settings you have set are compatible with all of the chips you have in.

I cleared the cmos, and it wont boot at all so I cant go into bios. It is all seated correctly. I even take out the stick I just added to revert to my old configuration, and it still just beeps. This board has done this before!

sounds like a grounding issue with the mobo.
take it off the mounting plate, set it on cardboard and try it there.
usually it goes away and you can remount it.
also try and clear the cmos if you havent tried that first.

taking the motherboard out....blah :(
What would be causing this issue to happen?
Last time, this exact same thing happened, and it eventually went away after it sat for an hour or so. Should I try that first before I take out the mobo?

if its a grounding issue its gonna come back later even if letting it sit helps.
if its a bad mobo your gonna have to take it out anyhow.
couse of it? something on the mobo mounting screws is grounding the mobo to the case.
sometimes the hard way sux but is necesary.
or just wait and mabey someone has a better idea.
also take the battery out while it sits and you wait if you go that way, tends to help the cmos completly clear its self.

ok, thanks man.
is this common? is it too much to ask to throw in another stick of memory?
if it turns out to be a bad motherboard, im done being ethical....im going straight to where i bought it and swapping it with another one!!!!

yes very common, make sure you use non conuctive spacers every where you can in mounting a mobo.
what mobo isit btw?
here is how i see the ethics on mobos.
long as you didnt voltmod it or physically damnage it ,its the companys fault.
if i have bios options to use im gonna use them and thats under warrenty imo.if they say its not then it shouldnt be an option in the bios then.
and noone will buy it!

ive owned many nf7-s's
if niether the letting it sit or cardboard testing dont work its rma time.
ive never had an issue with mine doing that and ive run 2x256 and 1x512 at the same time also.
here is another simlier thread like yours might help.

-Collin- is that also off the mobo backing plate? just set the bare board on cardboard.

i set it on an antistatic bag on top of cardboard. still nothing.
i bought it like 6 months ago, from a local store. i am pretty much screwed. ill either call abit or go to the place where i bought it, swap it out with a new one, and return this defective piece of crap. i really dont care anymore. they can send it back for abit to fix it. i did nothing that this board was not intended to do. if i fried a cpu or something, that would be a different story.
we'll see if my girlfriend will let me borrow the 119.99 for a new one :(

This may sound ludicris, but what's your OS. Win98 won't boot with over 768 megs of ram. Also, dual channel boards ahve issues with mismatched memory. Does your manual support the configuration you're applying?

I have windows XP. Also, even if it won't work in dual channel...I installed just one stick, and it still beeps.
Called Abit....from what I could understand of the english he was trying to speak, RMA the board. LOL.
This just turned into a crappy day. Looks like I'll be using my celeron for a while.

Tough break, but at least they're going to RMA it. Everytime I bust into the box I wonder if Im going to break something new.

I'm thinking of doing something shady at the place I bought it....
won't mention it over the forums though. :D
