Anyone know what pole is the + one? The shorter or longer one? Or doesn't it matter?

It matters! LEDs only work one way. Stick a battery between the leads (AA or AAA. Anything 1.5v) and see which way it works. A small voltage will not damage it if you get it wrong, so try away.
A slightly easier way would be to just look at the packaging (if you have it).

well the packaging is worthless..just says teh manufacturer and color heh thats it. But I did find out the longer one is the + lead. Also these look a bit bigger then the ones on my keyboard, not so much taller, but wider around. Like fatter. Would these still work or will I need to get different ones?
The longer pole should always be the positive one. The important things about an LED is the voltage drop, and the mA draw. It'll say "3.2V, 25mA: or something like that on the box. If not, try 2 volts, ~50mA that seem to be the most common spec for LEDs.
The voltage is important; LEDs have a very narrow voltage operating range. Too little and nothing, too much for too long and a dead LED. Good thing they are cheap!
