View Full Version : Would AS5 Work?
i was just wondering if i poped off the stock fan and heatsink and added sum AS5. do you think that would help cool down the GPU and maybe get a few more MHz out of the GPU. all i have for cooling for the card is just the stock HSF. but if i would not make any diff, then ill forget about.
P.S. i have never does this. so i guess if u added AS5 i would just put it on the core where the 9600 pro logo is showen on this chip on the pix

It should help you eek out maybe a few more Mhz. I mean AS5 has got to be better than whatever they put on at the factory. I would give it a shot, I mean all it can do it help your card run cooler :D. No harm in that.

Go for it man.
Its supposed to be better than generic stuff.
True. but i got to get suming better. like sum better cooling or what not. like i said b4 all i got is stock:( but i dont know what fits or works that good with the 9600 pro. everyones got 9800pros. the 9600pro is not that bad of a card but seem to be a underground card
cool i guess ill try it and see how it works.
back in abit :D
all right, done... damn that crap that they put on there was hard as hell to clean off.... but oh well.. now i just got to game for a few days to let the stuff bake in. then try to see what i get on my OC....

AS helped my 9600XT ALOT! My temps would go 65C+ and freeze up my computer, now my temp does not go above 52C and hangs around 39C idle and 50C when playing a game for an hour or two.
Use it! I highly recommend it. I put the stuff on...let it bake for a week. Runs cooler and I can push more mhz of it. best of both worlds.

Dont get it on ANYTHINg except the core, you will likely short out your card. Remember, it has silver in it.
well i put it on. and yes its only on the core. bin runing high polygon count (8 lights) for just over 5 hours now to help with the brake-in. hope it works abit better then that stock crap that was on there. " carp was hard as hell to get off :temper: . can u guys recommend a good after market cooler for a 9600 pro?

Short = No.
Screw up the card temporaraly = Yes :)
If you read on their site AS5 (and AS3) are not conductive, meaning there's no way it'll short out your card. However, they are slightly capacitive which will screw with the clock/data signals going to and from your core, possibly causing artifacting. Remove the offending traces of AS5 and the extra capacitance should be gone making the card happy again.
Hope the AS5 works well for you neo!

The 9600 Pro is hardly an underground card - a TON of people use it. Most coolers that are compatible with the 9800 Pro are compatible with the entire 9500-9800 series, and even more. The Artic Silencer would probably be a great option for your card. :)
dalilman52 i checked out that zipzoomfly and seen what it would cost for that 12g tube of AS5. and it was $48.32 Just for shipping:eek: so im not paying $60+ for a tube of that suff. what a rip off.
johan851- ok thanx. i did not know that the board was the same size as a 9800. i guess that makes things a bit ez'er, and now i know what to look for. Thanx:)
