The amazing thing is that the 6800u will render that smoothly in real time.

WOW!
I hope my 9800PRO can keep up!
Actually they said the 6800U was the first card to be able to run the engine at a reasonable FPS. That could mean 20-30. I think that by the time U3 comes out that the 6800U will be like the GF2 is now.

I think the x800 wont be able to do that well with it since I think the U3 engine utilizes the ps3 stuff which the ati product does not have now.

yeah i think unreal3 besing so specaily optimised for the 6800 is one of the reasons im leaing more towrads 6800 than x800 for my gaiming rig, still amaazing stuff

Original Unreal convinced me to get my first 3d cards in the form of voodoo2 SLI setup. Looks like another upgrade to whatever the top card is when this comes out. :)

yea at E3 we all sat down in this little movie theatre and got a demo of the engine, man that on a large crisp screen was just breathtaking.
saw the video a while back but didn't know it was unreal3.......some of those screenshots are amazing
By the time this comes out I should have a 3-4Ghz AMD64 and a new gen video card running on PCI express. 9800 will be like a 7500, lol.
once games come out that actually use the U3 engine to its full potential the 6800 U as well as the X800 will be obsolete.

well they did say the 6800Ultra was the first card to just run it at acceptable framerates - and some people pointed out they could see slow down, but when I last checked it was set for 2006 release...so 6800Ultras and X800 XTs only consideration will be for those who still own them wondering how they will perform

it states on the website that the engine is still in early development....
now we guess that it will be another year till its fully finished but they are making the game at the same time as the engine...
2 year from now we will laugh at the speed of our comps.
Whoa....
Looks like I may soon have to replace the Ti4200.... heh

Not to mention the engine itself hasn't been optimized at all yet. All those new features are just that, new. They haven't been tweaked at all yet to run better. And I hardly think a PS 3.0 capable card will be a requirement. It'll default to PS 2.0 for X800's, I'm sure. From what I understand, all that PS 3.0 gives you are some optimizations and the ability to use more complex instructions, not really additional features per se, and it won't be any time soon that they use all available shader resources.
Also you need to consider that Epic has a contract with Nvidia, not ATI, so I'm sure they've tested it on 6800 Ultra's and not on X800's. They're probably obligated to say that anyway because of said contract.
Here is a new interview with Sweeney: http://www.beyondunreal.com/content/articles/95_1.php
The following quote kinda made me have a slight heart attack.
Well, we are aiming at the kind of PC that we think will be mainstream in 2006. We will also be able to scale it down. Basically DirectX 9 cards will be minimum spec, so any DirectX 9 shipping today will be capable of running our game, but probably at reduced detail. If you only have a 256 meg video card you will be running the game one step down, whereas if you have a video card with a gig of memory then you'll be able to see the game at full detail.
I know thats two years off, but if mainstream comp has a gig of video memory what in the world will a high end comp have. Lets hope future high speed video memory is cheap.

how did they develop the engine if they didnt have a video card that was able to suppourt it??

They'll should optimize the code so that the latest video cards run smooth on them regardless of brand. They would cheat themselves out of alot of sales if they only made for one card.
