you made the wire or bought it?
sounds like the end needs to be recrimped or you have a couple wires crossed

The limit is 100 meters. So you are well within the limit. If you have lights, you probably did a good job with the wires. Do you use Win 95/98? Win ME/2k/XP?
You may want to look at the DHCP settings on the machine in question. You can also try a release/renew.

well, i do check the DHCP setting inside the win2k! everything should be fine! i also try ipconfig /release and /renew but still no good sign! need to wait for the tester to know what fault is it! anyway thanks for all help!
Color standard for catV
White Orange, Orange, White Green, Blue, White Blue, Green, White Brown, Brown
If you have a multimeeter you can check to see if there is connectivity between pins.
Note: This is not as easy as it sounds!

You might need a crossover if it connects between 2 switches/routers or between a cable/dsl modem and a router.
electromagnetic is right, except you do not need a crossover cable to go between a cable/dsl modem and a router a straight through is all ya need!

Depends on the modem, because with mine it needs a crossover. I've seen a lot of devices lately that don't require it though. The original idea was that with a switch any port could be used as an uplink to another switch or router, but now most home routers have dedicated uplink ports.
