ok so iv been playing with my memory and voltages all week tring to get my 2.8C to 3.5ghz (250fsb) and could not get it to run stable at all at 5:4, and stable for a while at 3:2. Memorys cr@pping out i thought, tho i was confused why my cpu would do stock 2.8ghz at 1.5v but suddenly needed 1.625v to do 3ghz?? So i tried loosening timings on the ram to 3-4-4-8 and vdim to 2.8v and upped my fsb @1:1 to 220 - stable as hell first go. However, during all this OC'ing the performance gradually fell thru the floor - im talking steadily lowering sisoft scores at the same clock speed (my first stock benchie was twice as high as i now get at the exact same stock settings) and now windows is sticking - the start menu jutters out and winamp sticks whenever i launch a program. I thought it was my loose memory timings at first (i was running 220fsb 1:1 3-4-4-8) so i went back to stock and 2-3-3-7 and the performance was still the same.
Have i knackered my cpu? iv never set the voltage higher than 1.675v (and that was only for a minute cos in windows it was getting 1.7v).
iv only had it a week so i can still rma it and get another 2.8 or a 3.0c. Im definately ditching this memory too. Please help, thanks

Possibly the RAM? What's the make and model of the RAM, CPU stepping?

Apparently the IC7 doesn't like 5:4 ratios with most RAM.

The ram is Kingmax Pc3500 "turbo"
Cpu is a D1 stepping. Its either a SL6WJ or SL6WT
its doing all this at 1:1 now too - the divider doesnt seem to make a differnece any more, it did at first when i was looking for a high OC, but now my performance is awfull and unstable at ANY settings, ratios and voltages....

just a thought here,i did some playing last night also and when i finished i went back to my somewhat "normal"settings.
anyhow it locked up while booting, and ive never had my rig lock up until this.

i cleared the cmos and everything is again normal.seems the bios kinda goes screwy somehowand doesnt give the original settings so it seems, give that a try.

I told him to clear the CMOS too... in the duplicate post over in the Abit mobo section.

I already tried clearing the cmos, it was the first thing i did....
iv yet to understand why, even with crappy memory, to get from 2.8ghz stock to even 3ghz requires going from1.52v to 1.6v to make it stable, when other here have gone to 3.3ghz+ on the stock voltage?
