It looks like I have a problem with my memory which i must have had for a while but have only just realised. Earlier this year I bought an extra 512 Meg stick of DDR 3200 to go with my 2* 256 sticks (cheap unbranded). About a week after this I experienced a game crashing which i hadnt experienced before but I didnt associate it with the memory and I just thought it was a random problem. I continued to get the occasional crash in some games which was particularily bad with far cry but again I just thought it was a problem with this game.
Now last week I bought a 9800 pro to replace my ti4200. The crashing to desktop in games is far,far worse with the occasional reboot. Naturally I just assumed I had a problem with the setup of my 9800pro or power issue .After a lot of tinkering reinstalling windows etc there was still this problem. So for the first time i checked my memory using the memory intentive torture text in prime95. After between 50 and 55 minutes it reports an error. My system is a 2.4C @3.0 (CPU: Mem ratio 5:4) with Abit IC7-G. I relaxed memory timings fully and tried different memory timing setting.Still reports error after 50 - 55 minutes.
So I have taken out the 512 meg stick and run prime 95 for 2 hours with no error. Does this mean I definately have a problem with this stick? What other tests need to be done to be sure that this stick is at fault bearing in mind that it was reasonably stable with my ti4200. Is it possible that the different sticks just dont like each other?
