Right just wanted to get some input on my system and how i ( for the moment) have it setup.

CPU Amd athlon 850mhz@978 (it just became 978 after i fiddled in the bios lol)
Mobo Abit KT7E
256mb sdram
Hercules 3d prophet mx2 32mb
Hercules fortissimo II sound system
20gp 7200rpm ata 100 seagate hdd
Cooler master EP5-6I11 Cpu cooler ( says it supports up to 1.4ghz)

rite now what i did was hop into the bios softmenu II
pop the multiplier from 8.5 to 9.5

the FSB from 100 to 110
FSB CPU to 3
upped the V to 1.750 (original is 1.700)
and the other voltage thingy from 3.00 to 3.30 ( i think.
and voila 978mhz stable for a few days going hard with a current cpu work temp of about 35 to 40 degrees celcius and mobo temp at 32 to 35 celcius. ( measured in windows usin via hardware monitor system v 2.04 dont even know if this prog is accurate) (the bios pc health shows even lower temps btw) now here comes the weird part...

i dont really have a clue what im doing ..hehe or well i do know about fsb ..multipliers and some voltage stuff that i read .. but
i seem to read bout ppl having probs clocking and i just fiddled a bit in bios and wham close to 1ghz. now what i want is some feedback and what i have done right and what i should redo ..(i want to pop the 1ghz then ill be happy without buying more coolers n stuff since it seems the one i bought is sufficient enough) since the system seems to be stable im going to run a 12h cpu-mobo-graph card etc etc test prog to see if it keeps up for the whole session. please feel free to guide me further along the road of overclocking since in a total noob in this area :=)

p.s stay off the smart remarks pls hehe im a noob but still..:p

Welcome to the forums!

Everything sounds good (raising the mulitplier, fsb, vcore) although I think the vio should have already been at 3.3v.

when you said you increased the fsb to 110, then right below you said you increased it by 3, which is it? Since 9.5*103 = 978. ohwell,
The program lots of people here use is motherboard monitor to check their temps.

It sounds like you're doing everything right. Just keep slowly upping the fsb and the multiplier, increase the voltage if it gets unstable and keep an eye on your temps. You will need to play around with it for a while before you will know the highest you can get your chip to go. Good idea to run the 12h testing session.

oh, and you don't need to worry about flame attacks here, they're a big no no.

good luck!

on a side note where i said fsb 3 i meant the CPU FSB u can run that from default 1 to 28 ..dunno what the heck it does but still :D

Just wanted to welcome you to the forums gabbe.

It sounds like your on the right track to go for 1000 mhz.

rite..hehe thnx for the welcome to the forum and replies so far :=) now here is the issue..my 850 t bidr is multiplier locked...
so when i switch the mp in bios it does not chng on boot up it still stands 8.5 ( ok bummer im stupid heh) BUT the good thing...
8.5x118mhz FSB = 1003mhz wohaaaa.. yep yep 1g is passed....
now how stable it will be remains to be seen but the next 24hours of testing should be interesting..

amd athlon 850@1003mhz !

my next move should naturally be bypass the multiplier locking so i can rather try 10x 100 and keep the FSB at 100 . this sounds more stabile to me pls enlighten me if im correct or not. noticed a increase in the CPU temp started tribes 2 for some testing and it went up to 41degrees celcius wich is still ok...now at what TEMP should i slow down and be careful?

Welcome
Please note I reserve the right to be completely wrong on anything I say. :)

From what I have read......if you lower your multiplier to 7.5 and raise the FSB (where it says 100/33) (to 133/33) to 133....you get 1000mhz. Which equals 1 ghz.

Bottom line........(I think) 7.5x133 is faster than 10x100 because at 133FSB your overall system performance will be faster than if you leave it at 10x100.

Temps........I started getting unstable around 45C+ and others have said the same.

Two months ago I was in your shoes......didn't know squat about OCing. Thanks to AMDguy.......(a guy here in the forums) you can read my sig and see:

41C is it even working hard? those temps are fine for a tbird and I have had mine up to 50C running 100 loops of CPU Mathmark 3. locked up then but you still have plenty of headroom to make it to the ghz. I suggest unlocking her with the no2 pencil and trying for 7.5x133 as this will give good performance and is a great place to start. always have a good boot between no post adn WELCOME to the forums!

thnx for the answers and suggestions i will unlock the multiplier and try some new stuff turns out 8.5x118mhz made 1003 BUT it crashed after some testing although runs fine on 978mhz..weirdly enough :=) anyhow will unlock it try some new things then come back to post on how it went..

either 1ghz+ or 1 fried athlon
