View Full Version : What's better, loose timing & more fsb or tight timing & a little lesser fsb?

im a little stuck whether to go with my 210x12 2520mhz w/ loose timings like 3, 3, 4, 11 or 220x11 2420mhz w/ 2, 2, 3, 6 (or even goes tighter)?

a7n8x rev.2.0
2x512gb pc 3200 ram
mobile 2600+

also could somebody explain what the timings mean, and what should i try to look for when im oc-ing...like should i try to get as close to 2, 2, 2, 5 as possible? or do i gotta loosen something if i tighten for example the "cas latency"?

thanks a lot.

If your memory will do 220 at 2-2-3-6, then thats the way you should go!

Exactly what memory do you have? Some expensive, low-timing stuff or?

Basically you'll always want tight timings, but it'll almost always be a trade off between high FSB and low timings, since they are inversely connected (at least for FSB's above 250)

In your case (running at 220'ish FSB's), BH-5 memory would definately be the way to go, as it will do 2-2-2-5 easily at that speed.

On NF2 motherboards...8 - 11 actually runs faster then 5 - 6...

So even at default FSB...8-2-2-2 will be faster then (5-6)-2-2-2

Huh? Not a very good motherboard for AMD OC'ing, I'd stay away from it. Go for an NF7-S or a DFI Infinity instead.

This sticky: http://www.ocforums.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=257741 should help you out. WHY DON'T PEOPLE READ STICKIES???

In finding the best settings for your system, you should really do some testing yourself. There's no perfect formula for everything, so run programs like Sandra or 3DMark2001 to see what works best for you.

...

It's not bad. There are a lot worse.

I suggest fast timmings at lower fsb. There was a huge thread on this a while back and that was the general consensus. :)
