RAM which I will get: 256MB PC2100 DDR-SDRAM, 184-pin DIMM (42$)

what would you say is the best DDR ram? is that Crucial good? becuase it's unbuffered which means unreged right? Reged is better? The CL is also 2.5, is CL the same as COS?

If money was no object I'd get either Corsair or Mushkin PC2400 CAS2 Registered

Corsair or Mushkin have excellent memory. If your going to buy DDR then get the PC2400 CL2 - faster memory and will overclock better. Unless you are running a dual CPU mobo - you don't use registered memory.

Registered will help if running large amounts of memory. If you're keeping it under 2 GB you don't need registered. Like I said, if money was no object, blah blah blah. :)

I agree with you 100% chawken. :D

Nothing wrong with Crucial. I use Crucial in my K7 slot machines, and Intel boxes. The only thing that I prefer Mushkin and Corsair for is high FSB overclocking. My Crucial won't overclock as well.
It's a do you prefer coke or pepsi type of thing. One of the nice things about Crucial is they run specials on their web site a lot - running good prices, and from time to time, free shipping.

My only experience has been with Crucial, so I can't comment on the others..

For the money, I think Crucial is the way to go. Excellent performance along with excellent return policies, excellent prices, and excellent customer service. You simply can't go wrong with Crucial.com in my opinion.
