If you're going to spend $400 on a card, get an X800Pro, no question. If you want to spend less, you might ocnsider getting a 9800Pro 256MB from NewEgg. Apparently, they feature the R360 core (same as 9800XT). With a BIOS flash, you can completely upgrade these 9800Pros to 9800XT, and they only cost $300. However, some people go for the 9800Pro 128MB, which might be the best bang for your buck at $200. I've heard some stories of these having R360 cores as well, and being flashed to XT. They're missing the extra RAM, of course.
But if you're planning on spending $400, an X800Pro is your choice. 9800XTs are not the thing to buy, currently.
Oh, and Welcome to the forums!

Yep, if you've got ~$400 eating a hole in your pocket, go for an x800pro. It's the latest high performance card from ATi. It'll smoke any 9800XT. If you're wanting to spend less... go with the 9800 pro's. Still a great card, imo. I've got a 128mb version, clocked past 9800 XT speeds, and I'm loving it. ;)

I will be very surprized if anyone buys a 9800XT now, especially considering how much they cost compared to the x900Pro. Unless you find a really really good deal on a 9800XT I would not buy it. Just get a x900Pro (if you cant find one yet, wait a few more weeks) you will not be sorry :D.

I have a friend who ihas the 9800xt and took it out of his system because of issues with the drivers. Does this card have that many issues with the driver or is he just not setting it up right?

Sounds like your buddy isn't setting up his card right. He probably didn't clean out any previous drivers from his system and/or is not using the latest drivers. ;)

I just don't get why the 9800xt is so expensive... I mean some of thoes models are MUCH MORE than an x800 at newegg. The x800 was $445 last time I checked, and some of the 9800xt's were $480!! That's insane considering that the x800 gives you almost double performance.
And the x800xt wouldn't be all that much more expensive either. For just a few more bucks, you can get literally twice the performance!
