I've switched to Linux for the moment on my home machine, and I thought I would post my findings about folding times.
Anyway, nothing scientific about these tests, but here ya go...
(Check signature for hardware specs)
Protein: BBalphaUT or UA or something
Windows 2000: under 4 hours
Latest Linux kernel: 5 hours
I'm hoping they will update the Linux folding client, because I suspect the folding time has more to do with the coding of the client software. Just a guess, though.
Cheers

Did you use the SAME protein for that test?
Anyway, I think you are right about the linux client... they should release a new one, as soon as they get v2 up and running in windows.

I believe so, but I'm not 100% sure on that.
Maybe later I'll do a more accurate test, but right now I am forcing myself to use Linux. :-)

okay I admit it, this post is for only one reason - I wanna break 100 posts and see if I get another star. heh.

Hehe, have fun as root! :)
(Don't login as root, you will be sorry one day if you don't know what you are doing!)

I'm pretty sure that's right. It has to do with the FORTRAN compiler. The Windows compiler optimizes the code better than either the Linux or the Mac version, especially better than the Mac. Those G4's are turning in terrible times and they should be churning out some pretty good numbers.

Root is fun Allan. Its really fun with you do stupid stuff like send / to /dev/null or maybe doing something more like this
/dev/eth0 < Network card
send that to /dev/null
do that as root on a 700meg download.
See how much fun that is. :D

What happens when you do that? :D
The Linux client is slow because there's not a high quality FORTRAN compiler for Linux.

/dve/eth0 to /dev/null would more or less uninstall your network card
