hi,
my current cpu is a celeron tualatin 1100mhz with 11x on a 100mhz FSB.
pricewatch now lists pentium 3 1133 mhz cpu's with 8x multiplier on 133mhz fsb for $40.
the 512k models are out of reach pricewise.
how much of a performance improvement will one get when going from 100mhz to 133mhz FSB?
you will gain some over all system performance but that P3 1133 is a Coppermine core I do believe. That core has the same 256k cache as the Tualatin core you currently have. You will end up with a slightly snappier system due to the 133 FSB but IMHO its not worth 40 bucks.

IMHO: The Pentium III is better than the Celeron but Z is right if it
has only 256 k cache than maybe 33 MHz + FSB isnt worth 40$!!!
Try purchasing a 512 k Coppermine.
(Maybe I know it wrong but I think
Coppermines did come out w/ 512 k???!!!)
That should perform well!!!

Only the Tualatin PIII-S and a few Katmai PIII's come with 512kb L2 cache (Well there are quite a few Katmai's with 512kb L2, but most of them run at half the CPU speed).
I suggest you overclock that CPU, I'm pretty sure it'll do 1463 (133FSB) easily.
If your MOBO doesn't let you OC, you can try the BSEL trick.
If it doesn't let you change VC you can do some VID pin wrapping.
You can find more info in this sticky (http://www.ocforums.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=187691) (4th and 5th post).

thanks.
actually my SOYO TISU is famous for not allowing OC. i tried coating my BSEL with nail polish (see seperate thread) but it doesn't work. the wire trick doesn't work either

The Soyo TISU is a fair overclocker, I ran one with different tualatin celerons before I got an Asus. Most 1.1G celerons will hit 133fsb. You don't need to remove the BSEL 1 pin to try running at 133fsb, but you will get a BIOS checksum error on cold boot and the BIOS will reset to defaults. You will have to raise the vcore. If you can get the processor running stable, you can remove the BSEL1 pin.

yeah
when i set the cmos i get "checksum error defaults loaded"
surprisingly, painting the pin with red nail polish didn't work!
i think it is "stable" if i used better cooling, i'm trying to get away with passive cooling
