View Full Version : Extra Cooling
Can i just add another fan on the case cover? I have a case fan in the front but no hole in the rear for a extra fan. Can i put one there on the case cover? And do i use a dremel to do it? And what size? 80,92,120mm? I opened the case up and it went down 4C. So I think i need an extra fan.
Thanx
if it is a normal case fanthen it is a 80mm fan then u should use a dremel and cut a hole and put it near the CPU and stuff

Hello,
I don't mean this to sound rude or degrading but somehow I know it will come off that way.
If your machine runs ok just like it is LEAVE IT ALONE ! Cutting a hole with a dremel will only put thousands of metal chips in the air and maybe on your motherboard. Ooh and what is going to power that fan ? Your power supply ? Does it have the extra power ?
Is the machine overclocked ? If it isn't again please take my advice and do not start cutting holes in your case ! You will more than likely do more harm than good .
Thats just my opinion / good luck whatever you do ,

What?! If a machine runs fine...mess with it!! Add more fans! More fans, I tell you! And overclock that baby! (that is what the forum is related to, if I'm not mistaken).
Mod! Mod! Overclock! Accessorize!!

I don't mean to step into the middle of an old feud, but I have to say I think Billy's post was quite reasoned and not in the least inflamatory. I call attention to the following from the original post in this thread:I opened the case up and it went down 4C. So I think i need an extra fan. Unless Smiley is having some kind of problem with the computer (which is not mentioned one way or the other), a 4C drop in CPU temp from opening the case is hardly a good reason to start cutting holes and adding fans. There's nothing wrong with adding ventilation if heat build up is causing problems, but if there's no problem, why cut holes in your case? If it ain't broke, don't fix it. Coming to this without the benefit of participation in the "watercooling or die" thread, it seems to me that's all Billy was trying to say. And I think he has a valid point.
I'd say GO FOR IT! Not because you have to, but simply to say "I made this!" Some of us mod simply for the challenge. I have friends that that wold rather spend money on faster processors than overclock. I might spend an equal amount for equal speed, when fans an HSF's are taken in the equation, but it's my hobby, and I like it!
So if you want to have a personalized computer, and enjoy the challenge, then go for it. If you computer runs fine and you don't want to mess with it, then don't!
cut your case with a dremel, if you are planning to blow out hot air you should place it at the top, but if you are planning to blow in fresh air, you should place it at the bottom.
A 80mm fan itīs great, but if you have the space enough , try putting a 120 mm fan

Nothing more fun that taking a perfectly running machine and changing something. I vote chop up your case!

I hear ya!!! I just upgraded my 80mm fan in the front of my case to a 92 then cut a 120mm blowhole in the top of the case and fired a 120mm fan in there, threw in some rounded cables and it dropped my temps 15-20 degrees!!! I still got one more 92 to stick on the side to cool the cards. I hear my sabre saw calling my name.... :) IT'S A BEAUTIFUL THING!!!
