Hey folks, a friend of mine has a case and PS from an old rig he is willing to give to me for a folding machine, and I can't figure out the load the PS can handle.

It says it's 3v + 5v rails = 142W

This would bring to me assume ~250W PS.

My question is would this be enough to power a PIII 500, 640MB RAM, small HD, DVD Rom? I'm assuming so, but just want to double check.

I've read the stickies but the light they shine isn't quite clear enough.

I used a 250w deer (I know, I know :() to power a celeron 500, 64 megs of ram, no name cheap video card, 2 hard drives, and a cd-rom drive.

Yea it should be fine a PIII 500 doesn't use much juice so a 250W should do you well.

The PIII 450 my dad brought home from work only had a generic 150 watt PSU in it.
