I got another letter from them saying that it was a rebate. I didnt see a damn thing about a rebate when I ordered my card. They also say they they can't get more cards. Unacceptable.
Where do we go from here?
Now they are covering their rears a little bit.
Call a lawyer, and relate to him exactly what happened. Usually firms will answer questions like that for free. I STILL don't think that stupid company really broke the law, but a lawyer will know for sure.
Honestly- did you REALLY think you could get an Ultra for that cheap? I was pretty sure it was a goof when I saw it, but at the time I subconciously assumed those were still $300 cards. Maybe I just don't shop enough but that $105 seems ridiculously low to me.
Whatever the law, I hope that company does the right thing and apologizes.

well now they are saying its not a goof they just ran out of cards and arnt going to get anymore. I personaly cant spend the time to go talk to a lawer right now but if you find anything out let me know. (Im working 45 hourse per week 6 days a week)
I guess it comes down to what they called this little deal when it first went up. If they slapped "special limited time deal" on it when it went up, well sucks for us, they just ran out.
What a minute! I know a 2nd year law student, I'll see what he has to say.

Received word from two readers in which it seems as though CDR Express will be honoring their extremely cheap GF2 Ultra price at just below 105.00. Here's an exerpt of the email those who placed orders received:
We are writing in regards to your order for the Visiontek Geforce2 Ultra video card. We have received your order. However, the card is out of stock. Your credit card has NOT been charged.
The price for the card is due to an instant rebate that Visiontek put in place on Friday. This instant rebate lowered the price of the card to just under $105.00.
We have contacted Visiontek to inquire as to when more cards will be available. Visiontek has indicated that no more cards will be available.
We sincerely apologize for this inconvenience. We were caught by surprise on this product. The pricing for our products is automated. Any instant rebates or price drops we receive from our vendor are automatically passed on to our customers. In this case, that has been of dubious value to our customers.
If you were one of the first 25 to place the order, then you should be receiving the card before Friday. Enjoy!
If this is true then a call to Visiontek should be able to verify this "rebate" and also might give you info on how get the rebate from somewhere else.

Nope nope nope. That "letter" was doctored by NVNews. I got the same letter, word for word, except that last sentence: "If you were one of the first 25 to place the order, then you should be receiving the card before Friday. Enjoy!". That's bullcrap. Apparently you can't even trust other websites who are supposedly on your side.
The last line thing was what the person on the site added.
He was just congradulating the people who got them.
Its just my cut and paste job made it look that way as you can see the original post here.

I don't know about you, but usually I describe being "ripped off" as being charged for something and not receiving it. Missing out on a deal isn't being "ripped off", it's just missing out. When you order a CPU from an online vendor and they charge your card but don't ship the item, that's being ripped off. When you go down to the grocery store and see a sign that reads "Soda 2 for 99 cents" but all of the 2 liters have been sold out, that's just bum luck.
I'm sorry you missed out, but there's nothing you can do about it now. Don't be a jerk by wasting the companies time with a lawsuit or some other crap. It's not their fault either.
If they didn't charge your card, then they have every right to just decline your order. And you can't force them to give you a "rain check" on an out of stock item anyway.
You missed out, that's just life. No sense dwelling on it. Better luck next time. :)

*sigh* Now that my GF2Ultra is on the way to me from another company (At twice the price), I suppose I SHOULD let it go. But when I placed the order for that card, I literally sat down on the floor in a fetal position and cried for 15 minutes solid. I was the happiest person you could possibly fathom. And that happiness was torn away from me as violently as by a bloodthirsty dictator punishing his followers.

Advertising something and then not having it is part of the "Bait and Switch" scam bestbuy at one time would do this all the time. They would put a very cheap item in their flyer and then not have any in the stores. This would get customer in the store and the sales men would then try to upgrade them to a better item. BestBuy lost a class action lawsuit and no longer performs this practice. Im not saying that cdr was trying to do this but that is the reason you CAN force somone to give you a rain check.
Mord- BestBuy Still does this!! Only now they tell you in the ad in mouseprint " Quantities extremely limited, no raincheck" . And they usually do it on cheaper items, like blank CDS or car speakers. A few weeks ago I missed out on a free-after-rebate spindle of 100CDRs. Got there in time to see the last one get purchased- doh!!
I think a lot of us take it for granted that stores won't run out of what we want. When it happens it sucks extra bad because we aren't used to it. Mostly I agree with Nagorak.
As to that letter, check this- the stereo place I worked at sells B&W speakers. Once a year or so the company has an event where they will discount an order heavily, based on your past order history. We ended up paying about 1/3 normal price on a pallet full, and blow em out at half price. Sure we advertise, but when that pallet is gone, it's gone. Vendors do this kinda stuff all the time. Plenty of people bitched- A $5K set for $2500 is unheard of. There was nothing we could do about it tho.
This time I really think we all just missed out on a legit offer. Hopefully that letter is legit, if so we can all blame Visiontek not the store. Either way I hope they put up some more info the next time they try something like this.

Not that gread a card? NOT THAT GREAT A CARD?! It gives the highest framerates of ANY card on the market, not just GeForce cards! (Yes, even better then professional graphics cards costing thousands of dollars--those are built for massive pixels, not for 3D gaming with textures.)

yes but according to john carmak a g3 will only be able to get 30-40 fps in doom3 with all settings maxed so I might as well wait.
I have a g1 256 ddr already and thats good enough for now. if I cant play return to castle wolfenstien then maybe Ill get a new card.

I still think that 30-40fps is crap, geforce 2 GTS's came out long time ago and there not at all outdated... Yea they will release the geforce 3 ultra and mx, the geforce 4 probably, and the GTS might fade away withen a few game releases, but the ultra has a ways to go untill it gets 30-40 fps in my opinion. That to me just sounds like a estimate and someone got there numbers wrong

hmm well john carmak wrote the article and he does kind of run id software so Im pretty sure he know what he is talking about. Doom3 engin is also going to be using alot of dx8 stuff like vertex shading so a g2 based card wont even be able to do everything the game is capable of. Ya for $100 I would buy a g2 ultra but not for 200-280 its just too outdated for that kind of cash.
