I just ran adaware on a computer brought to me. This is 100% real. no digital manipulation of the image whatsoever.

Tell me...why must people torture their computers so? This computer was brought to me because the spyware had infested it so much that you CANT DO ANYTHING.

I should also mention that this computer belongs to the doughter of the person who's computer I worked on previously...he had so much spyware that he couldn't load iexplore without it crashing half the time....only 180 objects and 2 viruses.

god that reminds me, I still haven't run AVG on this computer yet....ugh...

btw, do I have a new world record on my hands???:confused::confused:

I should also add that this is after I went into msconfig and disabled a bunch of crap....grrr

for those of you who have read this far and haven't seen the picture, this computer has

985

pieces of spyware on it, according to ad-aware.

A data miner is a kind of cookie that tracks what you're doing, so to speak. 40,000. Some things should be illegal. *sigh*

AdWare? Why don't y'all use SpyBot, The most I've seen is like 352 pieces of spyware on a machine.

Agreed, spybot will usually pick up 8-12 things that Adaware missed on my rig.

I use Spy Bot at least weekly. Never get over 20 things at one scan. Thats just silly how many there were on some of your PCs. :D

20??? I bet you're using IE and I'll also bet that the number will go down to ~2 or less per week if you switch to Mozilla, Firefox, or Opera.

ive never had that many spyware before, most ive had was like 150. for virisus i had just over 10,000 once. dont know what it was the computer started acting up. so i scanned it , i went upstairs came back down and there was over 10,000 found. so i formated it and re did windows

hmmmm I use IE and I get 0 results when I run ad-aware, and I run it about once a month. Must be the way you use it....:D

and as for defrag, good idea....this computer also had like 50 viruses on it....I'm afraid to see what condition the HD is in.

Things are running much smoother now....don't have 5 million things loading up right away, don't have 50 different hijackers competing for IE. It's still slow, cuz it's a P2-266.....but it's working a bit better than it was.

btw, any other optimizations you can think of? Updating drivers is out of the question...I tried to update the SB drivers, but they won't recognize the fact that there's a sound card in there, lol. Everything else has no need for driver updates. I already did windows update on it....nothing else I can think of, really.

I use IE as well without getting any spyware. Spyware Blaster = Win.

I'm sure my Uncle's computer has at least that much spyware. The last time I went on it took 5 mins just to load up the browser. I really should clean it the next time I go to his house.

stan03
05-21-04, 10:43 PM
yea Sypware Blaster is awsome it cut down my average items from scans frome like 15 to about 1-2

Spywareblaster and spywareguard rock. I run both and only had 1 thing of spyware since. But spywareblaster didn't have the newest update at that time.

Had a similar log show up on one of the computers at work. Cleaned it up and put a boot up PW on it. Low and behold a computer in another office got hosed the following week after I warned everyone on my team to stay off the pron sites at work. When will people learn.

The sad thing is that you can get all that trash going to legit sites as well and installing legit driver updates. Not to mention Windows Media Player.

I've been lucky and managed to avoid viral problems. Spyware, on the other hand, accumulates rapidly.

Moral of the story is to use SpyBot/Adaware et. al. at least once a week ;)

And yes, these things should be illegal.
