It is making my computer run at 100% all the time, it is also making it crash a lot. I can't end it either..
I've ran spyware checks and virus checks and nothing is found.
What is this thing??
I'm running Windows XP Pro.

Content Index Service first seen in Windows 2000 Server with Microsoft Index Service 3, and then in Windows XP. CISVC is a safeguard process which monitors the memory consumption of CIDAEMON above. If CIDAEMON exceeds 40Mb of memory usage, CISVC automatically terminates CIDAEMON and then restarts it. This mechanism prevents the PC/Server from reaching a low memory situation and a resulting slow down in processing.
Recommendation :
Leave alone.

But it is really slowing my machine down to the point of being unuseable, and it is making it run so hard for so long my temps are the highest I've ever seen them.
It's fine for the first five minutes if use, then it loads up this programme and it kills everything.

Are you sure it's CISVC and not ClSVC?

If you fix it you might learn something, reinstalling might only temporarily solve the problem.

True. It could possibly be a worm or something similar (maybe?). Open up msconfig and go to "Startup" and disable it if there is an entry for it. If not, check your "Startup" folder under your "All Programs" folder. If its not there, which I'm going to guess it isn't, make sure all your adware removal progs are up to date, as well as your anti-virus software.
If all else fails, end the program when it starts up, this won't solve the problem completely, though. Try running a search on your computer for the "cisvc.exe".
What is it?
Description: Microsoft Index Service Helper, a service that monitors the memory usage of Microsoft Indexing Service (cidaemon.exe) and automatically re-starts cidaemon.exe if it uses more than 40 MB of memory.
What it isn't: a security risk
It's needed if you've set up any of your drives or directories to be indexed. Without it running, you could potentially invite a memory "hole", as the indexing service would not clear its RAM usage, as it goes.
If you are not indexing anything, there's no need for it to run, so...
1. click on start -> all programs -> administrative tools -> services
2. click on the "standard" tab
3. (sorted by Name) go down to "Indexing Service" -> double click
4. note that in the properties, it's described as "CiSvc"... (you've got the right one)
5. change the "Startup type" to 'Disabled'
6. click on "Apply"
7. click on "Stop" (if available)
