Bleeding the system, and depending on the size and material they can act as a radiator. But, normally it's just for filling/bleeding.

Yeah, it's just a differnt set-up option, I think it helps get bubbles out alittle better then a t-line, I don't know I just think they look nice and you don't have to worry about evaporation.

if its a really big resevior, like 40gallons or more, it would be a sufficient volume to absorb and dissipate the heat without a radiator. smaller, its just pretty. and in some cases, evaporation isnt avoidable, but a resevior can offer more volume to evaporate before its an issue.

Evaporation is not an issue with tygon lined systems as they are much more resistant to water seeping through them than standard hoses. I'm not sure about clearflex, but I havent seen a millimeter drop in the water line in my t-line in about a month.

i have an insulated solid copper one with a pelt built into it.

bit of a chilling effect. :)

what cools the peltier?

as I understand them one side gets cold, the other gets hot, it only works if you can get the heat away from the hot side.

big copper sink with a 120mm fan mounted to it with a shroud I built.

the res is a copper cylinder in the center with flat copper plates on the ends (silver soldered together with Harris Staybrite 8 - good for about 11,000psi, I will likely braze the next one so it will be good for about 60,000 psi on the seems).

anyway, the end plates are drilled on the corners with the usual 120mm fan hole spacing. I had a 120mm mounting location in the top back of my case and my plan is to mount it there (it is still in an external box at the moment for testing). The copper heatsink passes thru the 4.5" hole for the fan so the heatsink is on the outside of the case (no heat stacking in this one :) )

I am going to redesign it sooner or later so it will use a small compressor and condenser - it prolly won't do -20C or anything in that range but it should be able to hack subambient temps with no probs.

Lets see some pics weapon

the only pic I have of it at the moment is one I snapped while it was in the middle of the silver soldering process.

the threaded rods were used to keep the end plates lined up and to apply a little pressure until I could work it into the vise and hit it with the torch - in the pic, the copper was still around 300 deg F -- that was immediately after silver soldering the base plate seam so it looks a bit nasty due to all the flux residue, etc.

it looks a helluva lot better after a good acid scrub down and some polishing but there really wasnt much of a point to that because it was covered with 1/4" neoprene. :D

I'll get some pics of the end product next time I have the digital camera handy.

Wow, you do some heavy duty fabricating lol, I can't wait 'till shop next year, mind if I rip off a few of your ideas?
