well i asked yesterday about L5 modding mobile bartons and i got the response that i may need to cut the 3rd L5 bridge but that's only required for some mobos. i was told that the gigabyte board in the link below doesn't require a mobile to be modded. is this true?

As far as I know the only board that needs this mod to use mobile XPs in SMP is the MSI. The Gigabyte should be fine. FSB options on that board make it quite attractive. It goes up to 166 FSB but im not sure how stable it would be there.

thanks man, but does any one know if gigabyte boards are know for good quality for smp and overclockability. i don't want to go with the msi k7d master because it requires me to mod the cpu and i don't want to mod the cpu.

check out www.2cpu.com

they have a motherboards section in their forums that will cover that board well, and there are a fewer users of that board in these forums

The Gigabyte board is NOT overclocker-friendly, I have heard from several owners of that board.

The Asus A7M266-D can use mobile Bartons, without cutting the third L5, as long as you're running Bios 1010. Unfortunately, Asus stopped manufacturing this board a while back, so they are difficult to find, but they are more overclocker-friendly.

i have heard bad reports about memory problems but i never heard of bad overclockibility. apparently the memory problem was fixed with a newer release of the board. what have u heard about the overclockability. exactly what is bad. is it fsb problems?

Evidently, although it supports high FSB, it is very picky about actually overclocking the FSB, with stability. (at least this is what I've heard.)

Umm ive got that board, its not bad, the raid is great and i love that, the overclocking ive never really gone, but theres no voltage stuff or anything, but i'd reccomend it as a good board

duallykickass u need to do the pin mod to get higher voltages. thanks for the feedback. the link to the pinmod is below.

Hmmm My gigabyte overclocks well..I need better ram but other wise I am most likely up at one of the higher overclocks

Sorry to revive an old thread, but I'm looking for some input from diehrd and other owners of the dual gigabyte board.

I would like to know what people are running for multiplier / FSB speeds / core voltage (please specify if you are quoting pin mod volts or actuall operating volage to avoid confusion.)

I'm really intersted in those who have turned up the FSB a bit (how much???) and if they are also using the onboard raid with the FSB turned up?
What chips are you using and

I have a pair of 2600 mobiles and currently have them running at a 17X, stock voltage, stock FSB. 2266Mhz is not bad but I was hoping to tweak the FSB and get these bad boys up over 2400Mhz. My only real concern is that I do intend to use 2 IDE drives in a raid 0 and I've heard increased FSB can cause instability and data corruption for both Raid cards and HD's. Another concern is that I only have pc2100 memory. 2 sticks of 256MB crucial and 2 sticks of samsung. All 4 sticks are registered ECC. Does anybody have some insight on how high I can expect to take this memory without problems (looking for just an estimate so I'm not flying blind.)

Thanks again y'all.
