View Full Version : Tightening down my DD water block
Hi all I have had my danger den watercooling rig for some time but haven’t messed with it all that much since I have installed it, now I am running a p4 1.7ghz processor non-overclocked, and my temps I believe have been rather high for my room temp, around 67F-71F at all times with a case temp of 30C and an idle temp of 41C, and a load of around 49C, I know that intel chips run cooler than amd, so is this hot? my guess for the hot temps is that the waterblock isn’t fastened tight enough on the chip, but my question is how to I tighten the block on there without crushing cpu as I cant see between the cpu and the block with the motherboard in my case :( is there some trick to it?any help or suggestions is greatly appreciated.
There's really no trick to it. Just cross tighten each equally. That is, in a diagonal X pattern.
Each bolt should compress up to about 5lbs at best.
Your temps sound quite reasonable.

I was scared to death to tighten my waterblock down when I first installed the thing. I mean a nice new chip, and bamm..., ya know? Guess what, I tightened a lil' more, and a lil' more, and I never hurt a thing. I do highly suggest you take your time, but don't be so afraid that you don't get the best you can. Albeit, your temps do look fine to me, but I'm an old Inteller, and a new AMDber, so I'm used to everything smokin ;)
thank you for the reply's guys!, well thats nice to know that my temps seem fine, but i look around these boards and see guys with overclocked amd 1.4s to 1.6 that have lower temps then me with the same watercooling setup and i wonder ya know what did i do wrong? oh well tighten i go! thanks again all you guys on this forum are great!
