I got a deer power suply when I bought my new full tower case. I allready had a enermax power sup. So I decided I would use the deer to run just my case fans and 80w peltier in my computer. It can run the pelt just fine but for the fans it sucks. Even if I try to run just the fans with no peltier The fans seem to be underpowered. If you want a better power suply there's nothing better than a good enermax. There worth the extra money.

I have a Deer 300wt running 5 80mm fans, 1 60mm fans, 1 50mm fan and the entire system below. I've had no problems. And the PS is approved by AMD. However, the Enermax is the better choice if you have the money.

One more thing to consider though. This power supply does not have the slots at the bottom of the casing to allow airflow from the CPU. I have good air flow anyway, so this doesn't affect me, but it's something to think about.

Here's a pic.

Why is the word slots underlined and linked?

A lot of people don't like Deer PSU's. I have one in my machine pushing an Abit VP-6, two 800EB's@1002, two FOP-32's, three hard drives, cdrom, 4x burner, 4 80mm fans, 1 92mm fan, floppy, LS-120, SB-Live, Radeon 64DDR VIVO, Happauge Video in card and the camera attached to it, NIC, GORB on the Radeon, 486 fan on the cnipset, and a blue neon.

And I run as solid as a rock.

I have a 300w deer psu, and it sucks. I run a lot on my machine, and I dont have enough $$$ to upgrade my PSU to a 400W PSU. I put a 80mm Delta 68cfm Screamer on my hsf the other day and the extra 0.87A draw has put a strain on my GF3. Now I get problems in really intense DX8 games like Red Faction and T2 (But I prefer OpenGL in T2 anyway)

I had a Deer 300w ps that was junk.

My Enlight 250w was better. When I used the Deer a GeForceDDR would stutter and freeze up. That was my first experience with Deer, and ever since then I've chosen to stay away from them.

yeah, ive found an apollo psu for about the same price, and it was amd approved.....however i gotta love the fact that all that stuff can run on kingslayers computer with this psu, this may take more thinking than i thought....i am running all that you see in my sig..(soon the fury pro will be replaced with a gf2 pro) plus ill be adding a 120mm fan...2 80mm fans, and a 92mm fan....plus an hdd cooler....(2 40s).....which is better the apollo or the deer?

oh by the way, to avoid problems right now ive pulled out an old AT psu that pumps out 200 watts and im using that to power my hdd, my hdd cooler, and my fan on the ati rage fury pro, this is really ghetto its just laying there by the side of my case and i have a second psu cordgoing to it...i wonder what my mom will say? ...maybe not that bad....i really need this psu :0

The problem I have found while researching psu's are that Deer power supplies dont have sufficient amperage nor quality of some other models.

The last time I checked the Deer 300 watt psu puts out 10 amps at 12volts.

Now a Quality power supply like a HEC puts out 12 amps at 12 volts and Enermax psus are listed here for all of thier quality products:

http://www.enermax.com.tw/products/switch-main.htm

There are three things that are important when selecting a Power Supply.

Power handling ability.
It must be able to supply enough power to run all the devices in your computer.
I recommend 300 watts or higher with high amperage rating.(very important if you use a TEC)

Dependability
If your Power Supply fails it could destroy your motherboard or other devices.

Cooling
Two fans are better than one.
A Power Supply that overheats has a greater chance to fail.

Odd, this thread isn't archived but much more recent ones are.. Is it because of the funny picture of a vintage case?

Sometimes when googling with site:ocforums I'll see threads with [Archive] in the title that can't be added to, I thought they went archived after a few years or something :)
