This P4 has hyper threading and I do not know what I did, but when installing, I did an instance1 and a 2, both in a separate folder. Well, I could not get instance1 to fire up, so I deleted the folder, reinstalled, restarted, and now in the processes list, I see 3fahconsoles, and 3 fahcore 78's. one using 50%, the others using 25 and 25. Anyone know how I goofed up? I can only see 2 folders with FAH in it :-/
Thanks

go to start, run, services.msc and see if you see two or three there.

It may be that instance1 DID start up and is running in the background. Perhaps try stopping all clients, and kill any running cores after that, and then start the two instances again.

I've always found you get a small produiction boost running # of instances = # of cpu's +1.
Becuase anytime folding writes out a finished frame, it pauses for about 2 seconds and the cpu goes idle for that time. If however, you have an extra instance of folding going, the extra instance will pick up the cpu cycles in that small pause. It may only come out to a frame or two per day, but it is a small % boost over the long run.

I hadn't noticed that but i have noticed that it spends ages waiting to download new work so I run # of instances = # of cpu's x 2. You can never have too many clients IMO.
I think Stanford should allow the client to download work before it's finished, just think how many cycles they are wasting.
I think their servers are a bit overworked at the moment because I have lots of work waiting to be uploaded aswell.
Is the machine a dual processor with HT or a single processor with HT? A dual with HT = 4 logical cpu's so it should have at least 4 instances (I'd run 6).

My client only takes a few seconds to upload the WU and to download another. Are you on dial up?
