View Full Version : CeleronA Overclocking Anyone?
I want to overlcok my Celeron 366 comp. Here are my specs.
CeleronA 366
BX6 Motherboard
128mb pc 100 ram
tnt2 16mb
(that's all the relevent info)
Now, i have CPU Softmenu2 in bios. I go into that and set it to userdefine and change my multiplier settings etc. When i save changes and exit and restart, it has my originall 366 setting when it starts up. It then says that "CPU is unworkable or has been changed". Now, is my CPU locked???? How am i ment to overlclock it from my bios? I know i can, but just can't do it.
Thanks for your time.

Your CPu is multiplier locked, and there is no way to change that. You have to increase the FSB to overclock it. If you can't do this from bios, you can probably do it with jumpers on the mobo. You can check the manual..
Good luck!
Make sure speed-error-hold is disabled. Also, you might have to increase the voltage a little to get the chip to run faster. Beware of heat! It is the enemy. If the chip runs hotter than 50C, you need to get better cooling.
I had a dual celeron overclock setup with (2) 366A chips, and they ran well at 550mhz/100mhz bus at 2.20V, but were a little hot and would on occassion lock up.
If it's anything like the BE6 II, there's jumpers that have to be set to "off" to use the settings in the SoftMenu II BIOS. Check your manual for the jumpers, and locations on the mobo. Sounds to me like this might be the problem....
After searching the net for info about the celeron, i've managed to overclock it.
Apparently it is multiplier locked and it (the CeleronA) will only work with the 4.5 multiplier. I've now got the 366 at 458 at
4.5 * 83
When i try it at 4.5 * 100 it locks up in the windows loading screen. Do i have to increase the voltage? I've already tried 2.2volts, so should i try 2.3?
The temps are fine atm. below 40 with stock heatsink/fan.
Thanks
yeah, I've run that chip at 2.30V, but if your temps get too high AT ALL, drop it back down, there may be something else holding you back.
What memory are you using? PC100 would be minimal, 133 ideal if generic. Also check your memory settings... but that's for another post... try 2.30V first ;) .
BTW -- was it jumpers of softmenu that stopped the nagging cpu-error-hold? Curious about that board (since I've never used one).
Firstly, thank you everyone or responding.
I did not have to touch the motherboard at all. After i posted this original post nobody answered for ages. (it was 3:30 in your time zone, i'm an aussie) I did a search on overclocking the celeronA and i found quite a bit. It was an old article, yet very informative. It was saying how the diff celerons were multiplier locked. One could only be used at 4, another 3.5 and the celeronA 4.5. All i had to do was set this at 4.5 :)
The max volts i can send inot my cpu is 2.3, i tried that at 550mhz and it actually got into windows but froze up STRAIGHT away. (at 4.5 * 100 setting)
My memory is generic pc100 (it's my dad's comp.. i've just bought my very own/first comp a few weeks ago)
I even accidently put the multiplier at 4.5 * 117 or something and it locked up straight away :) I had to wait a few mins before comp would get bck into bios without locking up...
I know that 550mhz is possible, i jsut don't know how to do it...
Thanks yet again guys.
