So I did a search and read a few threads about how some OEM companies force you to buy their brand of generic RAM for the price of higher quality RAM. A friend of mine wants me to upgrade his old HP Pavillion 8770c and he was hoping to get it done before he had to finish the graphics project he is working on, I had to shoot him down and tell him that there isn't any retail stores around here that sell PC-100 SDRAM. I felt bad about that so I started searching around trying to find some that could be shipped overnight.
All of the sites that I found only showed HP specific ram. There was a site that I got from these boards and it said that the HP Pavillion 8770c needed ram with a certain chip configuration.
Can anyone tell me if I absolutely need the HP specific ram? Is there a generic brand that I can use? I'd rather him not spend on ram almost as much as I would spend building a new computer.
