is this site legal for mp3s?
http://allofmp3s.com/
I thought so b/c of this Stay 100% legal
Stay legal and avoid breaking the law! MP3s and file-sharing networks are legal and using them is also legal. However, you should always Share Responsibly. In our member's area you will find a section on how to stay legal while getting access to the largest file sharing networks. Plus, we are the only site on the internet that provides software to keep your downloads safe and out of view from prying eyes! JOIN NOW!
but then i realized, it never says that that site is legal, it just says to stay safe when dling and stuff.

Filesharing is/will be legal provided you have already bought the media.

Ever heard of www.mp3.com ? :)

The only time it's legal to possess a copy is if you already own
the original.
Except for freeware. :D

A good rule of thumb: If you are downloading MP3's for free, from artists who aren't giving them away intentionally, it's probably not legal.

So far the only legal MP3 sites I've seen were either free song places (like mp3.com for music.download.com) or pay sites like Rhapsody or iTunes.

That site does make you pay, thats what confuses me. I know that obviously dling free stuff is illegal :).

It's legal in the same way that

"Pay for Kazaa gold and get to keep what you download!"

in other words no, it's not legal. They are just trying to scam people out of money....

Notice that nowhere does it say that what you are downloading is illegal. It only says that using the network is legal, which it is. It's using deceptive wording to get you to give them money.

Downloading free stuff isn't illegal.

Violating copyright is illegal.

Well, if that's the case, why are they still up?

Because they're not doing anything illegal.

They're only selling software. The software itself is 100% legal.

I think its kinda funny, stupid ppl get busted and they have no clue why and then the finally read fine print and know why. I think that there should be a law against crap like this, everyone isnt a smart person like most of us uber ppl. Also i wish there was a law of stupidity so i could ticket alot of ppl :X
