My opinion on why AMD is doing better

I mean, the intel "codenames" are so wimpy, who would actually wanna buy one of those. Seriously, say ur building a hardcore gaming rig, would u rather have a prescott or a SLEDGEHAMMER! And earlier, a williamette or a CLAWHAMMER! even the chip's official name... Athlon sounds like some serious spartan warrior whereas pentium is just some weird kinda medical procedure. Intel may have the lead as far as marketing goes now, but soon the processors will speak for themselves.

I think the name has very little to do with sales. Even if the names did influence purchases, it couldn't be very significant. I would bet 95% of people that buy a computer don't know the code name for their processor.

What is AMD's market share up to these days?

Exactly - not many people who are buying AMD know the "code name" for the chips - same with intel


all they know is

intel Pentium 4 and AMD XP type thing.

no guys, u dont seem to understand, there is NO correlation between sales and naming, i was merely joking! ;) I just thought it was funny that AMD had hardcore names and Intels, well... they sucked.

Willimate was out far far far before the clawhammer was out.
The proper comparison would be northwood and clawhammer.

Just so you know. Intel names their chips after cities.
I think amd just names them whatever sounds cool at the moment, lol

on another note the city of northwood (in ohio) has the lowest incometax in wood county. so everyone who lives in northwood has a little extera cash. :D
