I've just made the move to win2k, the only problem that i've had is that quake plays very dark. The brightness setting has no effect. I've checked the monitor brightness/contrast but they are fine. I'm using a geoforce mx2 400 and the lastest drivers from nvidias website (13.49 I think).
** not sure if I should post this here or in OS's??

i'm just using the brightness setting under system-disply in the options part of q3a, is there another setting/key press that adjusts the gama???
Works ok under 98se, is there a patch for quake or win2k??

You have to go into advanced options under the settings tab...at least that's where it was for my GeForce3, somewhere under there, just look under all the tabs, you might have to go to an even deeper sub-menu.
Did you download the compatibility updates for Win2K? I don't know what effect they'd have, but since Win2K was build on the NT platform, it wasn't meant for games. But Microsoft made some compatibility updates you can download and install from their webpage. If you haven't already downloaded them, give it a try. That and Service Pack 2. When I get some free time, I'll try to install Q3A on my 2K box and see what I can find out.
By the way, the last compatibility update I've found was March. I'd like a newer one, because I can't play Vampire: The Masquerade - Redemtion on 2k, and Activision just pointed me to the Compatibility Update for 2k.

thanks i'll try that, and let you know how i get on.
ps Still trying to find the courage to download sp2 on a 56k dialup connection:( (Must go broadband soon)
What vid card u have?? i know that if u have a RADEON (i have one) that if u play Quake 3 Arena under win2k that the display is too dark. They have a page on the ATI homepage on how to fix this problem if u have a radeon card here is the address: http://support.ati.com/infobase/3700.html
Noticed the same thing (also with Elite Forces).
I download the updates whenever I make an install, and I think the updates have no affect (it has been a while since I've played open GL games of late).
You'll have to adjust your gamma settings as the prior post suggested.

I fixed it, after installing sp2 and quake release point 1.27g I can change the brightness.
I did try changing the contact/brightness under in the control panel for the video card b4 I installed the above, but quake rest it every time I launched it.
Thanks for the help everyone!:D
