I recently built a computer for my friend.... we bought some ram (64 megs) and when i installed it the computer only detected 16 megs of it..... why? and how can i fix this??
im (or he) is running windows 98b 233mhz... the ram pc100 module........

The system is not capable of slowing down the PC100 memory that you put in. You would need to go to what they call PC66 (the older stuff). The system would still run but you would not get the entire memory.

you could have some bad chips or that type of RAM is not compatible with the motherboard. More specifics would help.

I had that same problem and this was the answer. Try PC66 memory.
