View Full Version : Question about bongs.

Here's my question. If I was limited by vertical space, but I still wanted to hook up a bong cooler, would hooking up multiple bongs in sieres or parallel help out the temps? I was thinking it would because you would cool the water falling, then send the water that fell to the top of another bong, and cool it even more, ect. Of couse, in parallel, I figured that each would have less water to deal with, and so less heat.

It's not that I'm building a bong cooler any time soon, but this question just popped into my mind, and I had to ask. Any ideas anyone?

You could but I think you will find that a well designed small bong cooler with a 1.5 to 2 foot tower will probably meet all but the most demanding cooling needs.

I'm learning new stuff every day! I didn't realize bongs were so short.... Seemed to me that they would be huge cooling towers about 4 or more feet high! Guess I was wrong :) . OK, nuther question. How high would a bong need to be to handle all watercooling? It would run the CPU, GPU, and even the chipset if you go overboard watercooling? Could you even really watercool the GPU or chipset? Once again, I've never even had a sucessfull OC, so I don't really NEED something like this, but I was just wondering.

The eternal question mark,

The actual drop of the cooling tower on my bong is 4' but I have 128 watts of CPU heat plus about 230 watts of pelt heat to dispose of. For most systems this would be overkill.

another usefull question (I hope :D ): Can I use one central large bong for multiple watercooling systems? I would let the bong cool down a large reservoir (5 litres approx 1.25 gallons) with it's own pump, and draw cold water for each pc with another pump...
Could this work?

That BONG tower cooling looks pretty good. (I mean in effectiveness not in appearance):D

Hi I just read that article on the tower coolers, and I had a thought on the 12-inch cooler. What if you thinned the ScotchBrite pads by sanding them down say to 1/2 or 1/3? Instead of using fewer pads it should work better. A thinner pad would let more air thought, and increases the surface area, I would thing. I think to get the max cooling you would need to see first how thin of a pad would work. Then add as many pads as you can with out restricting the airflow to the point that a fan can push air though them when they are wet.

That's a good idea. If you try it, let us know how it turned out.

I think the only problem with having several bongs would be the amount of evaporation from each one. Instead of losing water from just one, you'd have several to contend with.

Sure, but 5L isn't actually even a reservoir. Mine's 21L. Just make sure you got enough extra water as a 'safety buffer' and enough showerheads and fans to drip the water from all the PCs. Heck, you can even put it outside or let it double as your home's secondary water tank. Ventilation for the humid air is also important.

How long can the hoses be If I use an eheim 1048 pump, the bong cooler will be at the same height but I would like to place it quitte far away...
