Anyone know what's up with that? It runs fullscreen just fine using DirectX 7.0. When I upgraded to DirectX8.0a, UT wont' run in fullscreen, reguardless of advanced settings, or clicking the "maximize" button, or ALT+Enter.
Is this a common problem? How can I fix this? I've already reverted back to DirectX 7.0, but when my GF2Ultra comes, I'll want to use the latest version of DirectX, so the newest games I buy will work.
I though all the latest version of DirectX are supposed to work for games designed on every single other version of DirectX. 1.0, 2.0, 3.0, etc, etc. No matter what version of DirectX the game was designed to work with, it most certainly SHOULD work with the latest version.
try going into options and redect the hardware you are using and you will be fine. don't change the type just open it like you are changing to glide and then stay with whatever you had selected and you will be ready to rock.

Redect? Is that a typo, or some term I don't know about?
If you mean click "change 3D video device" when unreal Tournament starts?
If that's what you mean, then Direct 3D isn't one of the available options. If I select "Show all hardware", and select Direct3D, then when the program starts in Software Rendering. No Direct3D. As if DirectX 8.0a doesn't have Direct3D capabilities.
that is weird did you dl from M$? that is what happened to me and I re-detected(sorry about that) and it still gives all the options when you select all video devices. I would un and re-install direct x 8.0a. are you running win2k?

It sounds like a video driver issue. what card are you using and which rev of drivers? Maybe your drivers are old and don't like DX8 but work fine with DX7.

I downloaded Red Faction MP test, which needs DirectX8.0 to run. (I've been using 7.0, because 8.0 won't let me play UT.) After I was through trying the demo (The game is HIDEOUS. I'd never boy any crap like that, even at gunpoint.), I forgot to reinstall DirectX 7.0. I tried UT, and it works now. Go figure.
