I tried the demo.. I wasn't very impressed. Ya the weapons are good, but its the same old stuff we've seen for years, even the music sounds just like Deus Ex. Irritating scripted lazy programming, the door doesn't open until you plant the bomb on the generator... so the door is alive? it can watch you plant the bomb, and knowing its own demise, decides to let you out? That's just silly.
I'm shooting up guys at the first hut in the harbour, and the guys at the far hut don't do anything (maybe they are deaf) until I get a little closer. In one of the bunkers, I shot a guy in the head, he had a big gaping hole in his forehead (nice touch) and he still kept coming after me! guess he was using the left side of his brain.
Anyways this seems to be exactly like any other FPS over the past few years.. even the graphics didnt seem all that great, I was expecting something major due to all the hype.. the water looks cool, but all the fauna could look more realistic.
I put it into 2x AA and 4x AA but all the leaves edges still looked jagged.. not sure what thats about.
As for game AI and such.. am I missing something? does it get a lot better in the full game?

I bought it a couple of weeks ago. I honestly think it's a really great game. I like the way that stuff slides down slopes(I've always wanted to see that happen in a game). From my experience if you shoot someone and someone is within hearing range(for most of the weapons it's a given that someone heard it) they will try to find you. They may give up eventually, but they do react. Also the first level is a training level. It's meant to let you get a handle on the game then you actually start playing it. It's a fun game, I think it looks really good. and I'm enjoying it. Scared the daylights out of me yesterday when I was playing though.

the full game is far better then any of the demos...much better IQ and far better AI.
(I am wondering what skill lvl you set the demo at, since the AI in the real game is nothing like you stated.)
this is the best FPS game I've played since the original Deus Ex.
if that says anything for ya.
btw, I just finished it last night. man, this game is long.

If the graphics in Farcry don't impress you what does?

One of the things that bothers me about the Hitman series is how inadequate the artificial intelligence is. You could kill someone with a silencer, and the guy right in front of him would not know. =\

Many things just plain don't work in the demo... AA and AF may be one of them. The graphics quality definetly isn't as good in it either - the settings didn't stick right or something.
The AI in the game is great with the dodging and hiding, and you won't find better in any game out there really.
It has its problems, but it is hugely popular for a reason.

Far Cry is an awesome game. It's not perfect... you can see little problems that need fixing, but nothing major. The graphics, AI, story, gameplay and everything else are like nothing you have ever seen.
The demo is nothing like the real game. This is one of the few fps games that are actually worth it to buy only for the single player.
Far Cry is just about as close as you can get to Half-Life 2 until it actually comes out.
The only thing I don't like in Far Cry is that you need a super fast computer to run it with the options turned up.

I don't know if it is the same as with ut2004, where the demo had its textures downsampled 2x, so it wasn't huge.
It may be the same, since both had to be on dvd, or lots of cds.
Maybe someone knows.

Full game is definitely a whole lot better than the demo.

I thought they turned down the graphics and settings on the demo so more people's computers would run it better. Less graphics intensive demo = more copies sold?
Think so, but to play the real game on average settings, you still need a good pc.
Far Cry was the best singleplayer i saw since halflife classic...Also, its guaranteed to keep you busy for awhile, took me a good 20 hours to finish on easy, and 40+ on realistic.
The Very good thing about is aalso that youre savegames are all kept. After playing it, i just replayed some parts (like the level where you have to kill the three radio towers) because theyw ere just so much fun playing!
One kickass game... :attn:

When I played the demo I was like "WTF? This is what everyone is raving about? This sucks!". But, I saw it on sale and figured I would give it another shot. The full game, at least for me, was almost nothing like the demo. Yes, eventually I got to that beach thing, but the reactions of the AI and everything was vastly improved. Not the best game ever, and atrocious voice acting, but was a decent game.
