When you choose Settings in ATITool it displays the Chip Type. For my Sapphire 9800 Pro 128 it displays R350. Is the Chip Type disaplyed is hard coded according to the card type (9800 Pro) or is it detected for each specific card? Is there still a chance that under my heatsinkn there's the R360 core?

What ATITool reports is what the BIOS says the card is, not what the hardware actually is. So you really don't know if you've got the R360 unless you pry off the HS to look at what the core really is.

ATITool reported R350, I removed the HSF and found R360, flashed it to an XT BIOS, now it says R360 core. Lesson: ATITool only reports what the BIOS says.
