Now, of course cooling with water is better than air, but provides plenty of room for problems. For those out there who have used water cooling for long periods of time, what problems with leaks and such did you run into, if any, and what are good precautions against them?

Lastly, I figured I'd follow KISS for my first time and go with...
-Premanufactured Swiftech socket462 waterblock
-A 8-10 liter container for the water to sit in and dissipate heat in, with the hoses going to and from the CPU's block down near the bottom.
-A 100-150 GPH pump

Have the water be sucked in by the pump (into the tank), and water pulled out by the other hose, then going into the water block and pulled right out...nothing fancy (at least for the first time).

So, if all connections of the hosing are snug and then tightenned with clamps, what kind of shape will I be in to cool it all?

(I realize I might get better results with a radiator and fans, but I'd prefer staying simple early on)

A good closed system with a radiator and a fan is maintenance free and will cool better.

that much I figured (and noted), but the first thing is to make sure water doesn't get on components during operation.

clamps and some silicone will make the chance of leakage very low. Just be careful setting it up and you will be fine.

I built by own rig. I was resonalbly careful and it dosen't leak after a month of operation. My system is low pressure only, a 250 GPH Pondmaster pump. Just read a few how too's from here and take your time. The only thing I would suggest is that after awhile the "tank" will become saturated and heatup and then your cpu will also heat up. Hoew about a radiator outside your case instead. With a fan it will cool better and you could still have the pump outside the case. I assume you want as little fittings inside you case for leakage concerns. Just remember to protect your hises where they enter the case, sheet meatal can be sharp! Also, make sure your pump can deliver adequate flow at the head/height you want to overcome between the tank and the waterblock. I used barbed fittings and hose clamps for the belt and suspenders approach. Good luck! I try to enjoy the process, that way even if I F-it-up at least I had some fun building it!

Well, as far as screwing it up goes, I've gone through 1 mobo and almost my Duron, but it isn't so bad when you go in realizing that you're risking the whole thing, and when it does come up, well, I knew what I was in for at the beginning...amazing how many mistakes only get made once :)
