Hi,
my computer won't boot up for some reason. I think its my video card but I am not sure. I recently changed the fan on my video card with a vga silencer fan. I plugged the card in and it booted up properly. I then used ati tool and my computer crashed so I powered off. I opened up my computer to clean up my wires. In the process I took out my video card because it was in the way. I plugged everything back in and when I boot up I get no picture except for the monitor is working please check connection screen. I have no idea whats wrong. I tried unplugging my video card from the computer and powering on and it beeps. I tried plugging the video card back in and powered on and it also beeps. I then tried plugging in the monitor onto the video card and powered on and it doesn't beep. All the fans and lights seem to be working fine. Please help

here is the computer
amd xp 2000+
ecs l7s7a2
grandmars radeon 9800 pro 128mb

I am almost 100% sure its my video card now, but I don't have another card to test it on. When i power on the computer the light on the monitor goes green for about 5 seconds then back to orange, which I think means my monitor is getting a signal from my computer.

are any pins bent on the VGA connector? Is the Graphics card firmly in place? and usually no. My moniter does the same thing. If I were to unplug it from the pc and turn the moniter off. THe green light would come on for a few seconds even though its not plugged into the PC. Does your board have onboard video? Maybe you can use the onboard video and get rid of the ATI tool you used. That is more then likely your problem. Changing the fan and taking the GPU would not do it I dont think.

just checked and there are no bent pins. Tried taking the video card out of the slot and reseating it and same thing. Theres something weird going on because last night it worked for a while so i left it on overnight and when I checked this morning it wasn't working again. So about once in like 50 times the computer seems to turn on properly for some reason, but sometimes the screen gets all garbled after a while. I have already set the clock speeds back to the default speeds. Maybe my videocard is overheating so its refusing to power on properly?? Its weird though because before I got this new fan the stock cooling on my video card could use these overclocked speeds just fine. The fan seems to be properly installed since its laying flat on the gpu and I put the thermal compound that came with the fan on it. I do not have onboard video on this motherboard.

Well heat will cause a performance drop. If you let it get to hot then it may shut down or give you horrible performance so that is a possibility of it being a heat related issue. Try going back to the stock fan and see if it works. I still think it could also be a problem with the ATI tools so you may want to take a look at that when/if you can.

I'm just about positive you fried the video card with that overclocking, the silencer fans reduce airflow over the heatsink and overclocking heats it up. try putting the old fan back on and see if that does any good

Everything seems to be working fine now. I think it just needed time for the thermal compound to set in.
