Hi,

I need to put a system together for my wife. I use AMD but since I have an Abit BE6-II mobo kicking around I figure I can put a pretty decent system together cheap. I wouldn't mind setting up 2 10 gig drives in raid as well, can not remeber if board supports w built in raid or do I need raid card?

Considering a celly of some sort or should I just find a used PIII700. just sold my sl45y cBo 700 wish I would have kept it LOL.

Here is gear I will be using that I have scrounged up

230 watt p supply
16 inch atx case
Afreey 50X CDROM drive
Creative 16 mb TNT
Aopen AW200 Sound Card
1-128 mb pc133 Infenion & 1-256 pc133 Infenion Ram
Couple of the cheapest 10 gig 5400 rpm drives I can find possibly Fujitsu
Realtek 8039 nic card
Optiquest Q71 17" monitor
Liteon 12x10x32 CDRW with Burn Proof and software

I need a decent cpu as she will use system for Photoshop and digital photography but cost is an issue as well Celly are real cheap but PIII cost more, I may have a line on a celeron 300a that will overclock to 550 would that be good enough??

All feedback welcomed

P3 700 would be my first choice. Probably the Celly 600 would be my second.

Can I do raid on this board? Is it built in or do I need to add on something, too lazy to go to abit.com off to bed shortly, LOL little one has tired me out today......

Does it have a pair of orange IDE sockets?? That's the 2.0 version, with the RAID controller.

The 1.0 and 1.2 versions don't have RAID. Still nice boards, but the ATA100/RAID ices the cake.

I just got one, showed up DOA. Got it thru e-BAY, and the guy said it worked when he shipped it.

I found out why it don't work... I KNOW BETTER... $#^#(^$ ripoff... =( It certainly did not work when he shipped it. I found a bent pin in the cpu slot. I tried to fix it and it broke off inside the slot itself...**snivelwhinemoangrumble**

I've got another one coming, but it's only a 1.0. **sigh** I don't have multiple hard drives to set up a RAID anywho...

Mine is a BE6-II 2.0 and it has BLUE sockets.

Hmmm.. every pic I've seen of the 2.0 had orange IDE sockets for the ATA100. I guess that's not a sure-fire ID method then...lol

Well I have a BE6-II, Ver. 2.0 and my IDE sockets are green!

Actually, it is probably an early board since the PCB still says BE6-II, but there is a RAID sticker on the HPT controller, and the label on the ISA slot says Ver. 2.0.

Can't complain though, got it at a use computer parts store for $40, since it was mislabeled as a BE6-II.

And if you get a BE6-II Ver. 1.2 with the white connectors, you can always flash the BIOS to convert it to a Ver. 2.0.
