View Full Version : Intel wooed me then screwed me...
I got my RMA back from Intel already. They received my package yesterday and overnighted me a brand new, never opened retail package. All I sent them was my chip. "Wow!", I thought. I never expected Next Day Air much less anything more than an OEM replacement.
Now here's my problem. My current P3 1GHz was a 1.75V model. The one they sent me was a 1.7V. These were supposed to be a pair on my VP6 :[
So as you know, they didn't like each other...at all.
All I can say is...THANK GOD FOR THE VID PIN MOD.
Wired the new one up at 1.75V and voila! I'm in the process of installing Win2K now so I still don't know how it's going to turn out. I'm not going to bother trying to get ANOTHER chip with 1.75V out of them, so wish me luck.
I'll post back to let you all know if this works...

I'm sending in my cC0 celeron2 633 and if it comes back as a cB0 633. I'm gonna be a ver un happy camper and they will replace the chip to the way it was when I sent it in
I was a bit upset. I sent them a cD0 and got back a cC0. Thing is, the S-code on this new chip is the one that owns most of the highest overclocks on the database (including the top spot)...the SL4MF.
I'm not going to complain if it all works out ok. I had to send off 3 RMAs alone last week and I don't want to do anymore, haha.
As long as they both plug about at 1125 I'll be happy.
All went well and it is now running at 2 X 1.13GHz crunching on two SETI WUs at 1.75V.
Don't seem to be any ill effects from running two different stepping CPUs and the VID pin mod worked like a charm to get them to behave and play nice together. Sure, I wish they had sent me another cD0, but I'm tired of waiting for my toys to come through the mail.
I'm happy and learned something too :]
Thats really bad Jon. I would call them just to see what they have to say. Maybe they would send you a cD0 and let you return your cCO when it arrives.
Actually, I'm going to keep it. I think I'll buy another one in a month or two and put this cC0 in my Soyo system. Might then get another board for the 700 that's in it now. It will clock to 933 on anything but that Soyo for some reason. Might get a cheap Abit board or something, I don't know yet.
I'll get it all straightened out soon. It'll be fine until then.

Jon,
You may be experiencing voltage instabilities on the Soyo board. I have 2 Soyo boards, and they are pretty stable and without problems-now. I had to have an SY-7VCA replaced because the voltage regulator circuit went wonky (on 2 boards in a row) and delivered undervoltage. It was consistent, just low. I finally have a good setup, but this may be related to your overclocking issue with the Soyo board. I would be interested to know what your actual voltages are (maybe with MBM reporting) compared to what they are supposed to be.
Anthony
1.72V according to BIOS, Sandra and HW Monitor Pro. Goes up to 10% and is at 1.89. This is with a cB0 P3 700Mhz.
Just as a note, it didn't run stable at 933MHz on my VP6 either (I forgot until now). It ran fine until you put it under heavy loads and then I got random reboots. The Celly2 600 that's in craptacular Tyan board overclocks fine on that Soyo to 900.
I blame the chip...bad chip...BAD!
I'll keep that in mind though. That 7VCA has been good to me.
