Hey guys...

Have any of you messed about with air cooling pelts?

I want to get an 80w pelt and slap my FOP-38 on it and then onto my celeron 600@1008 at the moment...(i hope to get 1200 out of it...)

Whats the best way to mount the peltier??
I plan on using a copper cold plate (50*50*3mm) between the cpu and the pelt but I need to find a way to mount the FOP-38, pelt, cold plate together with some pressure...

(Correct me if i'm wrong but the more pressure between the FOP-38, pelt, coldplate the better the pelt will work??....)

anyone who's done the same sort of thing I would love to hear how it went!

Thanks for ur help...!

I don't know if the FOP-38 will be good enough. the fan might be. de 38 is a Delta? otherwise try getting a SK-6 and a Delta or a 5700rpm fan (less noise).

A fop38 should handle an 80W pelt as long as your case ventilation is good. The best way to assemble the heat sink/pelt/coldplate is to bond them all together with AS epoxy, clamp them in a vice while it sets to ensure a good close fit.
You will need to modify the hold-down clip to account for the extra thickness of the pelt and cold plate.

Thanks badger...cool idear...

Any idear of how to make a setup so that i can use just the heatsink and fan by its self if I want (not using Epoxy??)

??

You can mix some ASII in with the epoxy which weakens the bond it so you can get it all appart easier. Or another way is sust use your thermal paste and a couple of blobs of super glue on the corners, that usually works fine.
Glue does not bond very well to the very smooth surfaces of the peltier anyway so you can usually get it all apart without too much trouble.

About the clamp. I have made a mod to it. Don't have pictures, sorry, but will make them when I can.

Basicly what I did was cut from an older clamp the sides off, the pieces that hold on to the socket, hung them on the new clamp.

I hope you'll get an idea of what I mean.
Will try to get a picture as soon as possible.

Itīs quite easy to modify the original clip to give space for the pelt.

You may use some 2mm piano wire formed to a "U" shape, and then silver-solder it to the clip. Taking great care when measuring the extention according to the thickness of the coldplate and the pelt.
Good luck :)

Fjeld, I tried that one to. It sucks! And it is not way as tight a my solution.

the best allthough not the easiest is to drill holes in the HS near the outside edges and drill holes in the coldplate as well, then tap the holes on the HS and find some screws that will fit exactly and get ones with heads that will give you the clearance you need.

I never had good results with an air cooled peltier for under load my heatsinks and fans couldn't get rid of the heat fast enough it seemed. But at idle the temps were way down there. Close to freezing.
