Just received thermal take (aluminim orb style cooler) for my upgrade to a 1.2 Tbird. On an A7V inside an Inwin midtower (300 watt powerman).

Looks like I will only have about 3mm of clearance between the top of the Thermaltake and the PS air intake? It appears that the PS will be pulling it's air from this space and competing with the Thermaltake that will also be pulling it's intake air from the same space and blowing it down onto the chip). With the original Duron supplied cooler the air was drawn in thru the fins and out the top where it was sucked across a wider gap and pulled into the PS intake. This arrangement has been working well.

Questions:
1) Do I want to reverse the polarity of the Thermal take fans to reverse the airflow?
2) Perhaps someone would recommend a better arrangement?
3) And last-will the Duron supplied cooler be adequate for the 1.2 Tbird. The system will not be overclocked.

don't reverse the polarity of the fans, it won't work! you have to reverse the whole fan. take it out of the hsf and put it in the other way. if you're not going to overclock the tbird, maybe the wbk38 from globalwin would provide adequate cooling. and it isn't very expensive, i think about 25$ maybe a bit more. the duron heatsink will prevent the tbird from burning but it won't be stable because of the high temps.
just my .02 :)

what type of orb are you using. The orbs are not that good at all especially on something like a 1.2 tbird? If you are using the superorb you can use many heatsinks that are better such as the SVC Goldengate.

maybe even use the glaciator just to be safe if u ever do need to over clock!!!

Thanks to everyone! I'm going to ditch this orb cooler and purchase one of the higher performance approved HS/fans.

It appears that the Vantec may also be a good one and the dimesions are a bit shorter - providing more clearance to the PS intake?

Thanks again
