yay, welcome to the AMD world!
As for advice can you tell us what are you looking for or at lest what are you willing to pay? I can't suggest anything unless you name a price. as far is best tbird to oc, it would probably be the latest step which is the Tbird 1400 AYHJAR Stepping, with supper cooling u can go to 1800, 1600-1700 is avg cooling. But this can be quite expensive, the AYHJA rev is gonna be 50 bucks cheaper and almost as good, that's what I just ordered and I haven't gotten it yet but I think it will be good, don't forget to unlock it.
As far as mobo, what are you thinking of? DDR or RD? Abit and EPoX make excelent mobos although Iwill and Asus are also aowsome but less o/c'able. Again, there is a big dip in price so what are you going to be willing to spend on the mobo, cpu, ram, and the total system as a whole (not including monitor, mouse, keyboard)

see i`m going to a comp show this sunday to buy amd and get rid of my POS intel....stuff there is very cheap,i paid $110 for my asus cusl2-c mobo which is regular $150 or so..which isn`t bad.
i wold like to go for a socket mobo with both types or ram ddr and sdram with at least a min of 4-5 pci slots and one agp slot......and as far as the cpu goes...hows the 700mhz t-bird for overclocking?

Sounds like you've got a good plan. One thing I want to say though is don't get the 700. Invest the 120 bucks in a thunderbird 1.4mhz.... You won't be sorry.

you might as well go for the Durs, the 800 is very good, you can get 1100 out of it with ease, 1200 with good cooling. You can also go for the Dur 1000 that JUST came out, it's cheap too, and I think will be good at o/c but no1 knows yet, might be a 1400.
Mobo: Get the Abit-KG7 (Also avaible with RAID) it's not too bad, for 130 bucks you get the TOP mobo, it's really good and oc'able. 4 RAM Slots, 6 PCI, Supports 700+mgz D/A. 761 Chipset Ultra DMA-100. It's the best DDR-SDRAM out there as of now @ a good price.

If you have no money the best think to do is go out and look for a pig farm... lol no j/k, you can just save the cash wait for the next Palm Athlon and get the Dur700 or 800 now (1000 if you won't be buying a new cpu soon)
Everyone seems to love the 1ghz AXIA steppers. Just another alternative to muddle up your choice. Heh!

Pay a little more and get a Palomino MP. I am a Seti@home cruncher - thus, all the machines in my sig. My top machine is my home PC and with a benchmark Seti Work Unit it has a processing time of 4hrs 30min ave. The ABIT TH7 with a P4 1.5 @ 1.68 does the same work unit in 4hrs 15min ave. But... the Epox board with a 1.2 Palomino MP CPU (158x9) = 1.422 does that work unit in 3hrs 25min ave. The AMD Palomino MP is an awesome chip.

I doubt you'll find it, no1 would sell one, heh and they go fast, all the stores that had them ran out, now you can only buy them online and I just ordered one for 120 USD (The NON-RAID Ver becaues I have 1 60gb HD) Worth buying online I think, it's not a lot. Make sure you get all the parts that come with it (make sure it's boxed)
