I just recieved it today. I was wondernig what configuration you guys are using. There are two cooling things and 2 heatsinks. Are you using both cooling strips and none of the heatsinks or are you attaching a cooling strip to one side and the heatsinks to the other side????

In my system it is impossible to use the heatsinks and the strips together sincere is no room for them, so what I have done is placed the (aluminum) strips on BOTH sides of each memory module and used the clips to secure them in place. I will modify the heat sinks to fit at a ltaer date or possibly cut them into smaller pieces and use them on my video card memory DDR chips.
hope this helps

My configuration is making the application of this kit hard on me. I've got 2 sticks of Crucial PC2100 (256mbs apiece). I haven't had the chance to play with other DDR boards, but at least on my EPoX EP-8K7A, the DIMM slots are pretty close together. My first choice was to just apply the heat sinks themselves to the chips. (This would of course require some "trimming" to get them to fit. There seem to be some capacitors in the way). However, the internal sides would lack cooling entirely. So now I'm considering putting one heat spreader on each side, and then attaching the heat sinks to the heat spreaders. This will result in an even tighter fit, however, and will require me to trim even more of the heat sinks. In addition, I'm wondering just how well the spreaders will transfer heat. There would appear to be pockets of air in some places between the chips and the spreaders. I don't want that to act like a layer of insulation and just build up further heat. So I'm really at a dead end here, and I'm not sure how I want to install mine. Hopefully someone with a more clear opinion and experience will be able to post, but those are my thoughts on the matter.

I am using just the 2 heat spreaders.
Thats what Mushkin uses on their memory.
I cut one of the heatsinks up and used it on the clock generator and the northbridge.

how much does RAM cooling really help?? Is it necessary?
